A few big guns are in the field at the European Masters and we are taking two confirmed Crans fans in our back to lay trading column...
"Wattel can draw on fond memories this week and that could make the difference - he was runner-up in 2012 and ninth last year."
There's plenty of course form to go on at the European Masters with the event played at Crans Sur Sierre for years now. That helps us easily identify the players who enjoy the course's specific challenge and it's a pair of course form merchants for this writer in Paul Krishnamurty's one week absence.
It's also worth noting that last year's championship was fought out by a pair of outsiders in the form of David Lipsky and Graeme Storm so we know that big-priced players can spring a surprise high up in the Swiss Alps.
First up, Romain Wattel. The Frenchman put together a quite ridiculously good 2014 and despite failing to make it over the winning line looked to be a player of real quality. Being totally frank he has struggled to come up to that standard this year, but that is the only reason he (just) makes the 100 Winner price bracket. Wattel can draw on fond memories this week and that could make the difference - he was runner-up in 2012 and ninth last year.
Alejandro Canizares is a selection for me in the each-way column where you can read my full reasoning. Suffice to say that a few bad tournaments have inflated the Spaniard's odds to three figures. But given his very encouraging course form (fourth in 2013, ninth in 2011 and 11th in 2008) we know the track can bring out his best golf. Both Canizares' wins have come in birdie-fests like this week which further strengthens our case for including him.
The trading plan is to stake four units combined on the pair, then place lay orders at 15.014/1 and 3.02/1 on both. If either hits that unambitious first lay target, we'll be guaranteed to more than triple our money at least while retaining substantial extra positions.
Back Romain Wattel 2u @ 100.099/1
Back Alejandro Canizares 2u @ 130.0129/1
Place order to lay both players 12u @ 15.014/1
Place order to lay both players 20u @ 3.02/1
