Alavés value in Basque derby

Alavés v Athletic Club

Alavés' home form, so strong either side of Christmas, seems to have deserted them a touch: they've lost three of their last four at Mendizorroza. But those games have been against top-half opposition, and a closer look at their results this term shows that they are a different proposition against weaker teams.

They have only taken six points from a possible 30 in home games against top-half sides, but 19/24 from games against the clubs in around them in the bottom half. That's a remarkable difference and reason for thinking there's value in backing Abelardo's side in this Basque derby.

Athletic are one point and one place below them in the table, and while they put in a decent display against Betis last time out, their away form has been abject: one win in nine league trips since Christmas. Cuco Ziganda's days are numbered and a loss in this one would be no great surprise to anyone who has seen them this season.

Madrid can shade exciting clash

Real Madrid v Celta Vigo

Do Real Madrid care much about these last two games of the season? Realistically not, at least as far as results go; Zinedine Zidane will be far more interested in preparing his side for the Champions League final, monitoring fitness and momentum to make sure the players arrive in Kiev in perfect shape.

Cristiano Ronaldo's injury is a lingering worry - he was absent against Sevilla and won't play here - but it would be no great surprise if others were given some time off on Saturday, or against Villarreal next weekend. Raphael Varane, Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Gareth Bale and Luka Modrić all rested in midweek, so will probably return, but others may make way.

Their opponents, Celta Vigo, were frustrated in the Galician derby last time out, Deportivo La Coruña grabbing a last-gasp equaliser. Indeed, this has been an underwhelming few months for the seasiders, who have won just one of their last nine, sleepwalking to the end of the campaign.

The return of Iago Aspas will give Celta more spark, however, and there's a good chance they'll contribute to a decent spectacle here: the last eight games between these sides (all competitions) have produced 37 goals, at an average of 4.625 per game.

Zidane said on Friday that he wants to give the fans at the Bernabéu something to cheer in Madrid's final home game of the season, so we like their chances of shading a game with a few goals in it.

Goals on the cards in Valencia

Levante v Barcelona
Sunday, 19:45
Live on Betfair Live Video

Barcelona are just a couple of games from completing a whole league season unbeaten, and if they are half as clinical in the final third as they were against Villarreal in midweek, they should clear the penultimate hurdle on Sunday.

The Blaugrana were superb in that game, which served a timely flash forward to what may await next season: Philippe Coutinho scored and linked nicely with Lionel Messi, and Ousmane Dembélé came to the party with two goals in the second half. If Barça pull of the signing of Antoine Griezmann, things could be very exciting indeed next term.

There should be a few goals this weekend, although there's no guarantee they'll all be at one end. Levante have hit a rich vein of form, winning four on the spin (and seven of their last nine), so will be in confident mood. Given Barcelona have kept just one clean sheet in 10, we'll be backing the hosts to at least get on the scoresheet.
