Atletico result at Barca bodes well for Champions League challenge
Atletico Madrid are in great form and seem ready to fulfil their remaining aims this season.
On Tuesday, Atletico did a big favour to their rivals Real, when they claimed a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou against Barcelona. It looks as if Real Madrid will win the title now and Atletico are on course to finish third.
At the start of the season Atletico were tipped as possible title winners themselves. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been as erratic as expected, but Atletico made a lot of changes in the summer and could not find enough consistency. They have belatedly found their form and it has propelled them up from sixth post-lockdown. It all bodes well for their chances in the Champions League in August, with Diego Simeone's side through to the quarter-finals.
Simeone has been using his squad wisely since the season resumed. His only injured player is Sime Vrsaljko.
Mallorca pull off shock to bring hope
Mallorca simply had to win their last match against Celta Vigo if they were to stand any chance of staying up and they performed better than anyone could have expected.
In the relegation zone in 18th position, Mallorca hosted a Celta Vigo team that were eight points clear in 17th. Mallorca had not won any of their previous five games since the season restarted (D1 L4), while Celta Vigo were unbeaten in three (W2 D1), which included a 6-0 thrashing of Alaves and a 2-2 draw with Barcelona.
It's therefore fair to say that no one was expecting Mallorca to run out as 5-1 winners. With five points now between them and Celta Vigo with five games remaining, they still have an awful lot of work to do, but there is at least now some hope.
Vincente Moreno will be without three players for the trip to Atletico. Fabri is injured, while Martin Valjent and Ante Budimir are both suspended.
Back to clean sheets for Atletico
Atletico Madrid are the 1.330/100 favourites, with the draw at 5.79/2 and a Mallorca victory out at 14.013/1.
Mallorca may have just enjoyed a memorable victory, but Atletico are simply playing too well to expect anything here other than a home win. It's just a case of how the hosts will achieve it.
Atletico are 1.845/6 to win to nil. They have conceded in their last two games, but that's to be expected away at Barcelona and in the previous match against Alaves, they conceded a penalty in injury time. Prior to the last two games, Atletico had kept three consecutive clean sheets.
Simeone will swap his strike pairing
With only the games coming fast, it's likely that Simeone will make a number of changes and rest some of the players that featured against Barcelona.
Diego Costa is likely to be one of those. Simeone paired Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata in the win against Alaves on Saturday and now seems to be alternating between this duo and Costa and Marcos Llorente.
Morata is 1.9520/21 to score, with Felix at 2.111/10. Of the two it's Morata that poses more of a consistent goal threat and he could be worth considering to open the scoring at 4.03/1.
