Premier League: Swansea to turn off Man City goal tap

Man City may find the goal harder to locate against Swansea

Man City scored four or more at home for the seventh time this season against Plzen. Lewis Jones ponders whether this goal rush can continue against Swansea...

"Michael Laudrup runs a tight ship away from home with Swansea, especially early doors, and in 11 away games this season in all competitions, the Swans have conceded just one first half-goal."

Manchester City are the first side to score 26 goals in their opening six English top-flight home games of a season since Sunderland in 1935/36 and four more against Plzen means that they have bulged the net 22 times in their last four home games in all competitions.

However, while it's been all rainbows and lollipops at the Etihad Stadium, on the road, Manuel Pellegrini's side have been a shambles, taking just four points from a possible 18 and suffering embarrassing defeats to Cardiff, Aston Villa and Sunderland.

Man City's tendency to throw in an away day stinker or two is nothing new and should act as a reminder for punters to jump on the lay train at 2.829/5 for City to win the title.

This lackadaisical approach to playing games on the road is something that festers deep within the current playing squad, as even under Roberto Mancini the title contenders showed a clear vulnerability when entering various Premier League cauldrons.

Last season, City had only the fifth-best away record in the division as all of the Champions League qualifiers and Tottenham racked up more points in their 19 road games. In truth, they seem to lack the required mix of steel and skill to regularly pick up maximum Premier League points away from home.

Home is where the heart is for City, but this glut of goals they are currently firing in from all angles will come to an end this weekend against Swansea.

A current theme running through the past four City home riots has been their ability to score early or be handed the opener by some rather questionable defending. Against Plzen and CSKA, the first goal was a penalty on both occasions, the opener of the seven they bagged over Norwich came courtesy of a fortuitous deflection and Jesus Navas took only 14 seconds to fire past Tottenham.

Once in charge of a game, their swaggering confidence shoots to maximum levels and, as teams try to push on, City can pick them off at will, racking up a cricket score in the process.

Michael Laudrup runs a tight ship away from home with Swansea, especially early doors, and in 11 away games this season in all competitions, the Swans have conceded just one first half-goal.

Our advice is to lay Man City, with a view to backing the hosts when you are happy with your profit as they will eventually break down the Swans - but not until late in the day.
