Dan Fitch expects Arsenal to get off to a flying start against a Newcastle side that are short in quality and without the backing of their own fans.

Newcastle could be weaker than last season

It's been another summer of discontent for Newcastle, as Rafa Benitez departed and was replaced by Steve Bruce.

Bruce's appointment has not been greeted with enthusiasm by the Newcastle fans. In Benitez the club had a manager who had proved himself as one of the best in Europe. Bruce is underrated, but can he have a similar impact on a threadbare squad as his predecessor?

Newcastle have spent money this summer, but it remains to be seen as to whether they have actually strengthened their squad. Their headline purchases of Joelinton (£40m) and Allan Saint-Maximin (£20m) are players with promise, who lack experience. Meanwhile, Ayoze Perez has been sold to Leicester and Salomon Rondon, who was at Newcastle on loan from West Brom last season, has followed Benitez to Dalian Yifang.

Bruce could be without the services of Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie through injury for the first game of the season. Definitely out are DeAndre Yedlin, Florian Lejeune and Jack Colback.

Have Arsenal added in the right areas?

Arsenal have had a busy summer in the transfer market, but the jury is out on whether they have managed to rectify the glaring issues in their squad.

The back four was the area in most obvious need of improvement. Left-back Kieran Tierney has all the ingredients to be a success, yet the step up from the Scottish Premiership is a big one and he may take time to adapt. In the centre of defence, David Luiz has replaced Laurent Koscielny, which is a move that will fill precisely no one with confidence. Somehow Shkodran Mustafi remains in the squad and the prospect of him having to partner Luiz, will be an alarming one for Arsenal supporters.

Further forward the signings have been more promising. Dani Ceballos has come in on loan from Real Madrid to bolster the midfield. In attack, Nicolas Pepe looks set to form a dangerous trio with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Both Ceballos and Pepe are fitness doubts for the trip to Newcastle, alongside Rob Holding, Mohamed Elneny and Lacazette. Hector Bellerin, Tierney, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Emile Smith Rowe are all definitely out.

Gunners can take advantage of Newcastle turmoil

Arsenal are the 1.875/6 favourites, with the draw at 3.953/1 and a Newcastle win out at 4.67/2.

It's a decent price for the away win, at a time when the atmosphere at Newcastle is pretty toxic. Fan protests are expected at the game, along with a boycott of match attendance, as the supporters try to force owner Mike Ashley to sell the club. All of this is understandable given the way Ashley runs things, but in the short term it will not help the team.

Arsenal set up for goals

Both teams to score looks likely to be a bet that regularly lands in Arsenal matches this season and is priced at 1.738/11. That's perhaps a little too short to consider at a time when Newcastle's new look attack is untested.

Over 2.5 goals is better value at 1.814/5, having paid out in seven of Arsenal's last eight competitive games. Combining an Arsenal win with over 2.5 goals boosts the price to 2.89/5

Auba underrated despite impressive feats

Aubameyang scored in three of Arsenal's last four pre-season fixtures and is the 2.35/4 favourite to score. His record of 41 goals in 65 games for Arsenal compares with the very best players in the Premier League and as such, he's priced quite generously.

For Newcastle, new signing Joelinton is the favourite at 4.216/5. The Brazilian scored eleven goals for Hoffenheim last season.
