Manchester United need to strengthen if they are to compete for the Premier League this season, especially when their rivals have already done so, but who could be joining Mourinho's team before the transfer window shuts? Jasmine Baba brings you all the odds...
"Toby Alderweireld has been under United’s radar for a while and he has no contract extension to keep him at Tottenham past next summer. He is odds-on favourite to move across the country at 5/6."
Jose Mourinho has already strengthened his team with the likes of Brazilian midfielder Fred and, more surprisingly, goalkeeper Lee Grant. So far none of these signings have screamed top-quality. With rival teams making additions to key areas, rumours are now coming out of the Manchester United camp on the players who could be coming to Old Trafford this summer.
Bayern's dynamite duo could fix United's problems
Bayern Munich are reportedly open to selling both Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara, the former of which is a more attractive prospect than the current rumours of Marko Arnautovic's arrival, especially when the club tried to sign Lewandowski back in 2012. While the market still backs him to stay at the German club, the Betfair Sportsbook odds on him moving to The Red Devils stand at 2/1.
Alcantara was also nearly signed by a David Moyes-managed United in 2013. Many might remember that the deal was so close to being completed that De Gea wrote "See you in Manchester" on Thiago's Euro U21 hat-trick ball. He's shortened up in the betting but is still 5/2 with Barcelona his preferred option if he were to leave Bayern.
Spurs pair set for Old Trafford?
If you watch any of Mourinho's post-defeat press conferences from last season, there's not a lot of love lost for his some of his defenders and the perfect upgrade may not be that far from home. Toby Alderweireld impressed many with his performance at this year's World Cup, has been under United's radar for a while and he has no contract extension to keep him at Tottenham past next summer. He is odds-on favourite to move across the country at 5/6.
Alderweireld isn't the only player to have worn the Lilywhite shirt that United are targeting. There has been a continuation of reports from earlier this year linking ex-Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale, some even hailing him to be the new Ryan Giggs or the famed number 11 they need. With Ronaldo now a Juventus player and Bale enjoying playing in Spain the current odds favour him to stay at Real Madrid at 4/9 however he's scheduled to meet Jolen Lopetegui this week concerning his playing time. That could go either way, with his odds to go to Manchester United still at 9/4.
