Crystal Palace

Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace went through the end of August and the entirety of September undefeated in the Premier League, but since then things have gone down the spout in a big way. No wins in five, including four defeats, means the Eagles find themselves looking over the edge of a precipice. A Premier League relegation precipice.

All that said, Warnock will be briefing his team to not fear Liverpool; he knows they're a team that can be got at, especially in a bear pit of an atmosphere at Selhurst Park and a big scalp would be a huge boost to confidence ahead of the vital Christmas period.

Liverpool

Inconsistency, unsettled team selection, misfiring strikers and defensive errors - Liverpool have all the air of a mid-table team at the moment, and with pressure mounting on manager Brendan Rodgers he must be seeing this as an important game in the context of his side's season.

This was the game that essentially ended Liverpool's title hopes last year, a 3-0 lead was pegged back to 3-3 and hearts were broken all over Merseyside. As a result, there is likely to be extra motivation among the players that featured in that dramatic affair last May, but if the Reds are to do the business this Sunday it'll need to be without star striker Daniel Sturridge who has suffered a further setback in his injury-ravaged season and is likely to be out until the New Year.

Match Odds

As expected, Liverpool will come into this game on Sunday as strong, probably odds-on, favourites. They currently trade at 1.9210/11. It's understandable, the Reds are the better side here, on paper at least, despite their recent misfiring. Allied to that is the fact that Palace are in no sort of form and probably deserve their 4.77/2 billing at time of writing.

But here's the thing - Liverpool haven't won on their last five visits to Selhurst Park, have demons around their last visit and are lacking in confidence. I also have a feeling that Rodgers still doesn't know what his best team is this season.

Finally, Opta tell us that 57% of Palace's goals have come from set pieces this season, and set pieces are clearly Liverpool's achilles heel. For all these reasons, I am sorely tempted to oppose the away side at an odds-on price here.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals

For all their problems in terms of actually winning games, Palace don't struggle to score goals. No-one in the bottom half has scored more than them and they have the same amount in the 'For' column as their opponents on Sunday.

Liverpool aren't scoring at the rate they were last season, but they've got more than one a game so far this term. Their problem is they can't keep a clean sheet, keep making mistakes at the back and are unlikely to be able to keep Palace out this weekend.

Overs is very generously priced at 2.01/1 and I am happy to recommend that.

Liverpool Clean Sheet?

I'm putting this bet up because Liverpool's record for conceding goals away from home this season leaves a lot to be desired and I think the price will be wrong leading up to kick off. The Reds have conceded 18 goals in their last nine away games and kept just one clean sheet, and as I've already said - Palace don't have too much trouble scoring goals.

I reckon we can get No in this market at about 1.75/7 and possibly even better, and that has to rate as a good bet.
