Boswell's Betfair Blog - a bi-weekly round up of the best plays in the world of non-
league football (Gary Boswell has been a non-league football betting specialist since 1999 and was the betting correspondent for the Non-League paper-2001-2006. He was a close season transfer coup for the new international publication NonLeague Today and also signed to write for Betfair at the end of the 06/07 season. He scored 100% success rate with his tips for Betfair in last season's Conference South and also correctly identified all three Conference play-off winners - Salisbury,Farsley Celtic & Morecambe).

Five consecutive Favourites failed to win and 60% hit rate for those who religiously back the value draw bet whenever there's an evenly matched contest on the telly.

Those are the stats you need to ponder when weighing up yet another close call in the Blue Square Premier on Thursday night. If you've been laying the favourites systematically to level stakes, you are five points ahead whilst if you have been backing the draw to level stakes, you are five and a half points ahead which tells you all you need to know.

York finally got themselves a win on the board over Bank Holiday but they had to go to Northwich to do it and have been struggling desperately with a run of injuries to an already depleted squad. No Bishops at the Minster this season and Donaldson also sorely missed so that much depends on Sodje and Panther to provide the class. Make sure both are playing before even contemplating a win on York but the short favourite's price of 2.16 doesn't get Boswell rushing to raid the piggy bank.

Rushden are not making the solid start to their season that many expected but in Wayne Hatswell, Jon Chalinor and Michael Rankine, they have an experienced Conference backbone in the side and it shouldn't be long before Garry Hill has them firing. 3.8 the diamonds looks a sparkling bet with the usual level stakes cover on the draw at 3.4.

Workington Manager Tommy Cassidy has reportedly been hassling midfielder Johnny Wright to change his name by deed poll. He wants to rename his ace goalscorer Johnny Rithmatic so he can get the three Rs on his scoresheet against Hucknall on Saturday!

Michael Reed and Anthony Wright are following in the footsteps of brilliantly named Cumbrian strike duos that include Holmes and Watson who lined up for Carlisle in the 90s (they made goalscoring elementary) and the legendary Mustard and Onions who were reputedly too hot for any defence to handle in the late 70s (whatever did become of Graham Onions???).

Hucknall could do with some lessons in the Tommy Cassidy schoolroom of footballafter the start they've made to the season so getting a realistic price to lay them this weekend is not likely. There is also the 'they have to get a point sometime' consideration but not this weekend for me against a Reds team that will be challenging at the top end again this season. Workington are worth a win Back at the best price you can get.

The Blue Square Premier has a couple of short price home bankers in Torquay and Oxford to beat Stafford and Halifax respectively. Up to you whether you play at such short odds but I do expect both to win. You also won't need me to tell you about the chances of Forest Green at Woking. The bookmakers continue to underestimate Rovers so I expect some 3.0 and over again this weekend and will be having a bit of that out of the winnings we've already banked up on Jim Harvey's classy Cotswolders.

Main bets this weekend though come in the Blue Square South. Bishops Stortford have made an excellent start and take hotshot Greg Pearson to prove a handful for a Dorchester defence who have been leaking so badly they've considered asking patron Prince William to turnout for them!

Nap in the South are Eastleigh. The Spitfires pulled off a coup getting Paul Sales back from Salisbury and he rewarded them with a goal immediately in the home win over then tabletoppers Fisher. Damien Scannell has also been buzzing in the cockpit for Paul Doswell's outfit and I rate them a certainty to beat Sutton and not a bad addition to the Conference South Championship portfolio at the current price of 12.0.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

2pt Eastleigh BACK to beat Sutton
1.5pt Bishops Stortford BACK to beat Dorchester
1pt Forest Green BACK to beat Woking at 3.0 or better
1pt Workington BACK to beat Hucknall
0.5pt Rushden BACK to beat York at 3.8 or better
0.5pt the York-Rushden Draw

1pt Eastleigh BACK addition to the Blue Square South Title Portfolio at 12.0
