Premier League Transfers: Peter Crouch 3/1 to sign for Chelsea
This January transfer window is a lively one, with Peter Crouch to Chelsea the latest jaw dropping rumour and Brazilian Malcom reportedly in the middle of a north London tug of war between Arsenal and Tottenham...
"The market indicates the Gunners are about to be gazumped by their north London rivals, with Spurs 6/4 to land 20-year-old Malcom from Bordeaux."
As the Alexis Sanchez saga enters week 47 (no idea if that figure is accurate), bettors remain confident that the Chilean is on his way to Old Trafford. So much has been written about his prospective transfer from Arsenal to Manchester United that, at this point, it's simply worth stating that Sanchez is 1/20 to be a United player by the end of the current transfer window, with makeweight Henrikh Mkhitaryan 1/25 to move in the opposite direction.
Thankfully, the rest of the transfer news is more interesting, if a tad outlandish in some quarters, because if you thought Andy Carroll's proposed move to Stamford Bridge was this window's wtf moment, then you were wrong: now Peter Crouch could be Chelsea-bound.
The tall man with the delicate touch is 3/1 to get one final bite at the big time by joining the Blues. Having called off his bid for Carroll, Antonio Conte is rumoured to have identified Crouch as the man to bolster his attack between now and the end of the season. There are unconfirmed reports that, should Crouch stay at Stoke, the Premier League champions will turn their attention to one of Kevin Francis, Nikola Zigic or Niall Quinn.
More plausibly, Riyad Mahrez's name is back in the assorted rumour mills. That makes total sense, as he is brilliant and has wanted to leave Leicester for at least a season-and-a-half. The Algerian magician is 7/4 to move to Liverpool, followed by Arsenal 7/1 and Chelsea 8/1 - the latter in from 50/1 in the last 24 hours so something could be cooking.
Of Mahrez's trio of potential suitors, Arsenal have come closest to signing him in the past, so will Arsene Wenger be tempted to splash some of the cash freed up by Sanchez's departure and bring in a player who is, arguably, on his day the Chilean's equal? Bettors think Mahrez more likely to stay at Leicester until the end of the season at 1/3.
Wenger had looked almost certain to bring in Brazilian Malcom from Bordeaux but the odds on that deal have drifted to 4/1. Instead, the market indicates the Gunners are about to be gazumped by their north London rivals, with Spurs 6/4 to land the 20-year-old.
