Manchester City strolled to a 3-0 opening Premier League win at West Brom thanks to a brace from Yaya Toure and Vincent Kompany.

Toure looked back to his old self when he scored his goals inside the opening 25 minutes, before Kompany put the icing on the cake after the break.

Having had the benefit of seeing expected title rivals and reigning champions Chelsea held by Swansea on Saturday and Arsenal lose at home to West Ham on Sunday, Manuel Pellegrini's side put in an impressive performance to ease to victory against Tony Pulis' Baggies at the Hawthorns on Monday night.

Toure looked back to his old self when he scored his goals inside the opening 25 minutes, before Kompany put the icing on the cake after the break.

And as each of the last five Premier League champions have started their title season on Monday night, it might be worth having a punt on the Citizens.

City dominated from the first whistle and took the lead in the ninth minute when Toure got on the end of a Jesus Navas pull-back on the edge of the area and fired in a shot which deflected off team-mate David Silva and defender Craig Dawson before rolling into the bottom corner past Boaz Myhill.

City continued to press with James Morrison defending deep to get in a vital block as Wilfried Bony's effort appeared to be on its way into the net on 11 minutes.

On 20 minutes Sterling raced into the box behind James Chester and pulled the ball into the path of Bony. However he couldn't force his effort past the last line of defence from close range and Albion cleared their lines.

City did make it two on 24 minutes when Toure exchanged passes with Bony before curling his effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.

West Brom's first attempt at goal came on 28 minutes when debutant Rickie Lambert tried his luck with a 35-yard free kick which was high and wide of the goal.

Just after the half-hour Aleksandar Kolarov got clear down the left and teed up Bony in the centre but Dawson got enough of a touch to divert his shot just wide of the goal.

Raheem Sterling somehow failed to grab a debut goal following his £49million move from Liverpool as he raced through into the area but failed to beat Myhill with his low strike.

West Brom broke away and Saido Berahino was flagged a yard offside as he fired low past Joe Hart from the left of the area.

Berahino then turned defender moments later as he got in a vital block to prevent Kolarov's effort from the left of the box reaching the goal.

West Brom started the second half brightly and Lambert lashed a free kick inches over the top on 49 minutes, before Hart denied Berahino from close range two minutes later.

However the hosts' slim hopes of a fight-back evaporated on 59 minutes when Kompany jumped high in the area and headed Silva's left-wing corner into the far corner of the net.

West Brom refused to give up hope and Morrison managed to get on the end of Chris Brunt's left-wing cross on 77 minutes but could only direct his header straight at Hart.

But with a three-goal cushion City managed to run the clock down in the closing minutes and only a fine save from Myhill using his feet denied substitute Sergio Aguero a last-minute goal as he turned sharply in the area.
