Serie A betting: Fiorentina fireworks

Will Gomez be celebrating again when Fiorentina visit Lazio?
Will Gomez be celebrating again when Fiorentina visit Lazio?

Dave Farrar predicts the Viola to conquer Lazio, Napoli to get back on track against Inter and Roma to power past Chievo...

“Over 2.5 Goals is mightily tempting at 2.01/1, but Fiorentina strangled Inter so effectively last week that I can't take my eyes off the 3.7511/4 that's available for them to win at the Olimpico.”

Napoli v Inter

Both Napoli and Inter found recent good runs derailed last weekend as they went down to Torino and Fiorentina respectively, so both Rafa Benitez and Roberto Mancini will be hoping for a reaction here.

Napoli have won their last five home games in all competitions, including a 1-0 win over Inter in the Coppa Italia, and I'm surprised to see them as big as 1.9520/21 here. I know that Inter have improved, but have they really improved THAT much?

Inter's more positive results this calendar year have all come against the division's lower lights, and every time they have played a side with more quality they have struggled, losing to Sassuolo and Fiorentina. Mancini has them on an upward curve, but it's not one to get carried away with.

Even though Napoli have looked tired in recent weeks and haven't been at their best, they're a better side than Inter, and with a relatively full strength squad, they shouldn't be a shade of odds on to beat them. Rafa's men are a confident pick, especially if rumours about Mauro Icardi's fitness troubles are true.

Lazio v Fiorentina

It's a shame to see an excellent looking game between Lazio and Fiorentina relegated to a Monday night backwater, but it provides us with a decent betting opportunity.

Lazio were excellent last week in Sassuolo, that mid-season blip well and truly behind them, and they go into this as 2.01/1 shots to grab another victory.

What makes the game so intriguing though, is that Fiorentina's recent form has been equally outstanding, with only one defeat in their last 14, and wins against Inter and Juventus this week.

Mo Salah has made a massive difference to Vincenzo Montella's side and with Josip Ilicic dramatically rediscovering his form as well, La Viola will be hard to stop.

Over 2.5 Goals is mightily tempting at 2.01/1, but Fiorentina strangled Inter so effectively last week that I can't take my eyes off the 3.7511/4 that's available for them to win at the Olimpico.

I don't think that there'll be much of an atmosphere in Rome, given the kick off time, and that could play into the visitors' hands. Marco Parolo's ban and injury concerns for Stefano Mauri also leave Lazio weakened.

Chievo v Roma

It's strange to see Roma as big as 1.855/6 to win at Chievo. Rudi Garcia's team are not going to win the title, and may have drawn seven of their last eight, but they're still several cuts above the Flying Donkeys. If Chievo do save themselves this season, then it will be with their away form, which has outstripped anything that they've achieved at the Bentegodi.

That's no great surprise, as the atmosphere in that giant ground is so uninspiring, so downbeat, that away sides must enjoy the trip.

Chievo have won only 11 points at home all season, and have scored just ten times. They've lost here on six occasions, including games against Juve, Napoli, Fiorentina, Inter, and even Parma.

It may be low scoring, it may be undistinguished, but Roma will manage something similar to their result here last season. It was a 2-0 win then, and given their record against Chievo in recent years (three wins in a row without conceding), they should be shorter than they are to make it four.
