The Big Wednesday Multiple: United to ease into CL Group Phase

Can Manchester United get close to this again?
Can Manchester United get close to this again?

It's that time of the week where Paul Robinson selects a home win, an away win, a match to go over 2.5 goals and a match to go under 2.5 goals. Here are his selections...

"Back CSKA Moscow @ 2.2 (6/5)

Back Man United @ 1.85 (17/20)

Back Over 2.5 Goals in Barnsley v Everton @ 1.72 (8/11)

Back Under 2.5 Goals in Partizan Belgrade v BATE Borisov @ 1.53 (8/15)

The Multiple pays approximately 10.71 (10/1)"

Bet 1: CSKA Moscow (HOME) @ 2.2 (6/5) - Live on BT Sport Extra at 19:45 BST

Sporting CP won the first leg of this tie in Portugal last week but it took a late winner to take a 2-1 lead to Russia and I suspect that CSKA can take victory here on home soil.

The hosts have been a regular fixture in the group phase of this competition in recent years and they have enjoyed some good results, including draws on this ground against Man City, Roma and Real Madrid.

Opponents, Sporting CP, aren't quite on that level and I have my doubts about their mentality to go to a place like Arena Khimki and get the job done - even with former Benfica man, Jorge Jesus, now in charge.

Bet 2: Man United (AWAY) @ 1.85 (17/20) - Live on BT Sport Europe at 19:45 BST

It took a couple of wonderful Memphis Depay goals and a late, late Fellaini finish to put Manchester United in a relatively comfortable position in this tie and I expect them to extend their 3-1 lead here.

The Belgians are back in the big-time for the first time since 2012 and I doubt that they will get any further than they did on that occasion. United may not be quite firing on all cylinders domestically but they still have seven points from a possible nine and are yet to concede a goal.

Louis van Gaal will be after a comfortable victory and with Wayne Rooney having a point to prove, I can see the England man making it this evening in Brugge.

Bet 3: Barnsley v Everton (Over 2.5 goals) @ 1.72 (8/11) - Live on Sky Sports 1 at 19:45 BST

Our only foray away from the Champions League takes us to the Capital One Cup and I can see the goals flowing when Everton travel to Barnsley.

It's been a turbulent few days for Everton having been beaten at home by Man City and John Stones handing in a transfer request ahead of his proposed move to Chelsea.

This match could be just the tonic for The Toffees though as they should have too much class for a Barnsley side who are two divisions below them.

We should get some enterprising football at Oakwell this evening and even with Roberto Martinez all but certainly fielding a few youngsters, he will have them playing attacking, open stuff, and that should lead to goals.

Bet 4: Partizan Belgrade v BATE Borisov (Under 2.5 goals) @ 1.53 (8/15) - Live on BT Sport Extra at 19:45 BST

The first leg of this Champions League tie finished 1-0 to BATE last week and with it being so delicately poised, I think we could be in for a bit of a tense, low-scoring affair.

The Club from Belarus travel to Serbia knowing that a clean sheet will see them progress into the group phase and they will therefore surely go with the mind-set to keep their opponents from scoring at all costs.

Even if they do concede, an equaliser would still be good enough to go through on the away goals rule, and with Partizan generally always failing to fire at this level, I wouldn't rule out a 0-0 final score.
