Dan Fitch returns with five more goalscorer bets and for the fourth week in a row, is tipping Carlos Tevez to score...
"Paderborn have conceded eight goals in their last three league games and conceded a further three in a cup win over amateurs Sportfreunde Lotte."
It says much for the disruption caused by the international break that I've just had to Google my last Goalscorer Gamble column to remind myself how my picks got on.
Delving into the distant near past can often make for painful reading, but on this occasion the news was good. Though only one of my selections came in, the price for Carlos Tevez to score first ensured that the column finished in profit.
We start our attempt to repeat that profit with the Premier League's early kick off between Manchester City and Spurs. In the last column I also tipped Sergio Aguero to score first, only for him to grab the second goal in Manchester City's 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
This weekend he is a decent price to simply score at any time. Aguero has scored five goals in five previous games against Spurs - only against Norwich (also five) has he scored as many goals in the Premier League.
Tottenham come into this game off the back of a clean sheet but conceded three times against Liverpool earlier this season and were put under a lot of pressure in their 1-1 draw with Arsenal. City are unlikely to be as wasteful as the latter and the 2.186/5 for Aguero to find the net, represents good value.
We stay in the Premier League for Southampton's game with Sunderland. Despite their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham, the Saints are still third in the league and will be looking to get back to winning ways against a Sunderland side that have taken just two points from three away games.
Graziano Pelle is the man Southampton will look towards for a cutting edge. Having started the season with four goals in six games, Pelle made his Italy debut in midweek and scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win over Malta. Back him to score another opening goal at a price of 5.79/2.
Dropping down to the Championship, we look towards the division's top scorer to get back among the goals. Nottingham Forest's Britt Assombalonga has scored eight times in 11 games this season, but has not found the target in four games.
This barren run has seen Forest lose their lead at the top of the Championship, as they drew four games in succession. This might not seem like positive news, but it only serves to pump up Assombalonga's price as Forest take on a Cardiff side that have faced turmoil this season.
Russell Slade takes over a team that have won just once in their last eight games, losing five times in the process. Against such a side, the odds of 3.02/1 for Assombalonga to score are too tempting to not take a punt on.
Another player facing a defensively weak side is Eintracht Frankfurt's Alexander Meier. At 6'5" tall, Meier does not have the typical build for an attacking midfielder, but his runs from deep, allied to his heading ability make him a difficult player to handle.
Indeed, Meier has plundered four goals from his last four games to put himself among the Bundesliga's top scorers. With his side flying high in fifth position, this week Meier faces the recently promoted Paderborn.
Like Frankfurt, the newcomers have confounded expectations with their fine start to the season, but there are signs that their defensive issues will ultimately lead them to struggle. Paderborn have conceded eight goals in their last three league games and let in a further three in a cup win over amateurs Sportfreunde Lotte. Meier looks like just the man to cause them more problems, so back him at likely price of 6.75 to score the first goal.
Finally we head to Italy for Juventus' visit to Sassuolo. Carlos Tevez has provided a winning tip in each of the last three columns, so it seems only right to keep faith in a player who is performing at such a high level.
Tevez has seven goals in six appearances this season and has just enjoyed a couple of weeks with his feet up, as he is still out of favour with Argentina. This week he goes up against a Sassuolo side that are without a win in their last seven league games.
The hosts conceded three in their last league outing (a home defeat to Lazio) and recently shipped seven against Inter, so they will struggle to contain a Juve side that were last denied a goal in a league game back in the March of last season. Put your money to Tevez to breach enemy lines at 2.0621/20.
Best Bet: Back Tevez to score at 2.0621/20
Back Aguero to score at 2.186/5
Back Pelle to score first at 5.79/2
Back Assombalonga to score at 3.02/1
Back Meier to score first at 6.75
