Andrew Hughes thinks high-flying Kansas will edge out Portland on Sunday to kick off another cross-sport weekend multiple.

“Portland are on an impressive seven game unbeaten run of their own but will be without key defensive midfielder Diego Chara for this game.”

Bet 1: Back Sporting Kansas to beat Portland Timbers at [3.1]

The final weekend before the World Cup gets underway features a number of crucial matches in the MLS and Dave Farrar has picked out three of the most important games in his must-read MLS Preview.

Sporting Kansas were in dominant mood against Minnesota last weekend and they head to Portland with a five-game unbeaten run, which has taken them to the top of the Western Conference, seven points clear of Sunday's opponents.

Portland are on an impressive seven game unbeaten run of their own but will be without key defensive midfielder Diego Chara for this game. The Timbers haven't won any of their 17 games without Chara, and his absence could make the difference here. Back the visitors to edge out their Conference rivals.

Bet 2: Back Melbourne Storm to beat Brisbane Broncos at [1.44]

It's another busy weekend in both rugby codes, and you can catch up with all of the latest previews and tips on the Betting.Betfair rugby pages.

With the State of Origin series out of the way, some of Australia's top rugby league stars will be back in NRL action, and this clash between two sides who are fighting to hold on to a play-off spot should be a high-class affair.

Cam Munster, Felise Kaufasi and Will Chambers will be back for the Storm, although Billy Salter is still absent with a hamstring injury, while the Broncos will be able to call on the services of Andrew McCullough and Josh McGuire.

Both of these teams have identical 7-5 win-loss records but those stats don't tell the full picture. Storm have scored more and conceded fewer than the Broncos, and given Brisbane's poor record in Melbourne, it makes sense to side with the home team.

Bet 3: Back Atlanta to beat Los Angeles Dodgers at [2.45]

Atlanta went down 7-3 in the opening game of their series in Los Angeles on Friday, but can bounce back in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Four of the Dodgers' starting pitchers are now on the injured list and their remaining starter, Alex Wood, has been in poor form. Wood gave up five runs against the Padres at the end of May and in his last start, in Colorado, conceded six in two innings.

He will be up against an Atlanta side that is pushing hard in the National League East, and an in-form pitcher in Anibal Sanchez, who hasn't given up an earned run in two of his last three starts. Back the visitors to level the series.
