Saturday Sports Multiple: Netherlands to win in a 16/1 weekend wager
Andrew Hughes is back with another weekend multiple and he's backing the Netherlands to overcome Germany in their Nations League clash on Saturday
“Joachim Low’s side have only won three of their nine fixtures this year, and they look like a team in need of freshening up.”
If you think that Germany's performance at the World Cup was a temporary blip, you will probably be backing them to beat their bitterest rivals in the Nations League this weekend, but I think the home side offer the better value here.
Joachim Low's team have only won three of their nine fixtures this year, and they look like a group in need of freshening up. Instead, Low has been sticking with the old guard, despite the fact that, as Kevin Hatchard points out in his Match Preview, many of the stalwarts he has relied upon are badly out of form.
The Netherlands still have a lot of work to do if they are to return to the top table of world football, but Ronald Koeman has made a solid start to his tenure, and has engineered a victory over Portugal, a draw with Italy and a solid performance in a 2-1 defeat in Paris. They are taking this tournament seriously and with home advantage I think the Dutch should be shorter in the betting.
The first one day international was washed out and rain could be a factor again on Saturday, but if it is a rain-reduced encounter, that should help the home side.
Sri Lanka are an unreliable fifty-over team, but it is with the bat that they are most vulnerable. Their ability to post a big score in fifty overs, let alone to chase one is seriously in question, but a rain-reduced match could turn into more of a Twenty20 affair, which is the format in which they seem most comfortable these days.
England arguably deserve to be favourites, despite being the visiting side, on the basis of their strong limited overs form in recent years, but I think this game could become a lottery and Sri Lanka look at touch too big at [3.0].
The Champions Cup gets underway this weekend and Bath kick off their campaign with a tricky looking tie against Toulouse.
Todd Blackadder's side have been in mixed form recently, losing their last two, but as Simon Mail points out, those games were against last season's top-two sides, Saracens and Exeter. And the good news for Bath fans is that Toulouse are also struggling to hit top form, and are currently 6th in the French domestic league.
This one is likely to be close, but Toulouse are poor travellers and Bath have beaten them in each of their last meetings. Back the English side to edge this one.
