The Big Saturday Multiple: Leeds to march on at Elland Road

I don't think that it will be a happy return to Elland Road for Neil Redfearn
I don't think that it will be a happy return to Elland Road for Neil Redfearn

The Football League provided Paul Robinson with a 17/2 winner last weekend so it only seems fitting that this week's edition comes from those three divisions. Here are his selections...

"Back Leeds @ 1.83 (5/6)

Back Oxford United @ 1.6 (6/10)

Back Over 2.5 Goals in Coventry v Gillingham @ 1.75 (3/4)

Back Under 2.5 Goals in Preston v Blackburn @ 1.57 (4/7)

The Multiple pays approximately 8.04 (7/1)"

Bet 1: Leeds (HOME) @ 1.83 (5/6)

It was a long wait but Leeds United finally recorded a win at Elland Road for the first time since the beginning of March in their last match there as they beat Cardiff 1-0.

Steve Evans' side then followed that up with a 3-0 thrashing of Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium and they will be confident of making it three from three when they welcome rock bottom, Rotherham, to West Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors have lost their last four matches and Neil Redfearn's appointment in October hasn't worked as expected thus far. Redfearn will be keen to get a result against the team he has managed numerous times over the last couple of years, but I doubt that he has enough quality at his disposal.

Bet 2: Oxford United (AWAY) @ 1.6 (6/10)

League Two is the scene of our away selection this week as high-flying, Oxford United, should have enough about them to pick up a win against bottom of the table, Dagenham and Redbridge.

The Daggers have won just once this year and been beaten on nine occasions. They've now lost three of their last four in the league and they needed a replay to get past Morecambe in the FA Cup.

Interestingly, Wayne Burnett's side have picked up just three of their nine points at Victoria Road and they are still to win in front of their own fans.

Opponents, Oxford United, are doing much better at the other end of the table as they are up in second place and still in both the FA Cup and Football League Trophy.

The U's have won their last three in all competitions and it's three wins from their last four away from the Kassam Stadium in League Two.

Bet 3: Coventry v Gillingham (Over 2.5 goals) @ 1.75 (3/4)

It's first versus second in League One this weekend and with 66 goals scored between them in 34 matches, I expect our over 2.5 leg to land with relative ease.

A come from behind 3-1 victory at Colchester meant that Coventry's last five matches have all finished with at least three goals scored. Aside from a 0-0 draw with Blackpool it's been pretty much goals all the way at the Ricoh Arena and the Sky Blues have racked up seven in their last two league appearances in front of their own fans.

Gillingham put their FA Cup and Football League Trophy woes behind them by beating Bury 3-1 last weekend and three of the leaders' last four in this division have seen over 2.5 backers paid out.

Justin Edinburgh's men have failed to score only once on the road this year and, despite their success, they have kept just the one clean sheet as well.

Bet 4: Preston v Blackburn (Under 2.5 goals) @ 1.57 (4/7)

We conclude back in the Championship as I can't see many goals when Preston and Blackburn meet in a Lancashire derby.

A trio of 0-0 draws during their last four outings have helped extend Preston's unbeaten run to half a dozen matches and while they only scored four goals themselves during that period, the Lilywhites didn't concede any.

Blackburn have hardly been prolific themselves as they have netted just 15 in 16 fixtures this season, but they also have a decent defensive record with the same amount conceded at the other end.

Paul Lambert was appointed as their new manager in the week and he will be desperate to avoid a defeat in his opening game. I wouldn't expect a sudden change in style to all-out, as he's more likely to adopt similar tactics as he did at Aston Villa rather than Norwich, initially at least.
