No bounce back for Ole

Southampton vs Manchester United - SAT 12:30

image002.png

Southampton got their first win of the season last weekend against Brighton, but it was just a matter of time, as the Saints have made a good start to the season according to expected goals. Manchester United suffered a shock defeat at home to Crystal Palace last weekend, and while they were unfortunate to lose (xG: MUN 2.57 - 1.09 CRY). Defensive issues remain for United, which means we should see an entertaining game here, with a 63% chance of both teams scoring, a 61% chance of over 2.5 goal, and Infogol calculates a 57% chance Southampton avoid defeat here - 2-2.

Chelsea on a roll

Chelsea vs Sheffield United - SAT 15:00

image003.png

Chelsea registered their first win of the season at Norwich, a 3-2 win which was much more comfortable than the scoreline would suggest, according to xG (xG: NOR 0.97 - 2.03 CHE). Sheffield United were beaten by Leicester last weekend in their first game against one of the top teams in the league, though did limit them to few chances. Infogol gives a 51% chance of under 2.5 goals, and a 55% chance of BTTS 'no', so a low-scoring home win is expected - 2-0.

Palace to follow up

Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa - SAT 15:00

CP.png

Crystal Palace were fortunate to get the win at Old Trafford last weekend, being extremely clinical with their chances. Aston Villa were also extremely fortunate to get three points against Everton, as they conceded more big chances, only they weren't taken in this match (xG: AST 0.81 - 1.56 EVE). Both teams are high in confidence, but Palace are taken to put this leaky Villa defence to the sword here, with Infogol calculating a 51% chance of a home win in a low-scoring game (55% chance under 2.5 goals) - 1-0.

Cherries to hold Foxes

Leicester vs Bournemouth - SAT 15:00

LC.png

Leicester registered their first win of the season against Sheffield United last weekend, though again struggled to create good chances, and have so far averaged just 0.87 xGF per game. Bournemouth were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City last weekend, and while they rightly lost after a poor defensive display, they created a host of chances against the best defensive team in the league last season (xG: BOU 2.00 - 3.29 MCI). The Cherries will cause Liecster problems on the counter attack, while Leicester may struggle to create good chances, with Infogol giving Bournemouth a 47% chance of getting something from a high-scoring game (58% chance over 2.5 goals) - 2-2.

Another City romp

Manchester City vs Brighton - SAT 15:00

MC.png

Sheffield United remain unbeaten after two games, rightly beating Crystal Palace last weekend after a solid defensive display. Leicester impressed at Chelsea last Sunday, with many suggesting they deserved to win the game after a strong second half display. The Infogol model sees another cagey game at Bramall Lane involving an organised Blades defence, with a 54% chance of Under 2.5 goals, but Leicester are taken to get the win (49% chance), 0-1.

More misery for Watford

Newcastle vs Watford - SAT 15:00

NU.png

Newcastle caused a shock last weekend as they beat Tottenham 1-0 away from home, and although they were fortunate to get the win, they deserve credit for their defensive display (xG: TOT 1.24 - 0.81 NEW). Watford continue to be vulnerable defensively, conceding a whopping 3.90 xGA against West Ham last weekend. Javi Gracia needs a win here, but Infogol doesn't think he will get it, with Newcastle given a 41% chance of winning here, and a 54% chance of BTTS, so an entertaining home win - 2-1.

Another entertaining Hammers win

West Ham vs Norwich - SAT 15:00

WHU.png

West Ham got their first win of the season last weekend against Watford after an impressive attacking display in which they racked up 3.90 xGF, but defensive issues still remain. Norwich were beaten comfortably by another top six side in Chelsea last weekend, and continue to concede big chances, while creating them also. An entertaining game is expected here (58% over 2.5, 57% BTTS), with West Ham given a 54% chance of getting the win - 3-1.

More defensive issues for Liverpool

Burnley vs Liverpool - SAT 17:30

Burnley.png

Burnley suffered late heartbreak at Wolves last weekend, as they conceded a 97th minute goal from the penalty spot to deny them three points. Sean Dyche's side continue to create good chances (1.48 xGF per game), and will cause Liverpool problems here. The Reds made light work of Arsenal last weekend, rightly winning comfortably, but again showed signs of a defensive vulnerability. Klopp's men are taken to win (62% chance), with a 55% chance of BTTS, so another Liverpool win in which they concede - 1-3.

European exertions to catch up with Wolves

Everton vs Wolves - SUN 14:00

Wolves.png

Everton were beaten by Villa last weekend, though were unfortunate to lose, after what was another solid defensive display (0.94 xGA per game). Wolves have had the tough task of balancing Europa League qualifiers and the start to the Premier League, meaning they are yet to win, drawing all three of their games. They have struggled in attack this season (0.92 xGF per game), and have shown weaknesses defensively (1.19 xGA per game). Everton's process so far this season has been better than Wolves, and Nuno's side have another Europa League qualifier against Torino on Thursday, so will be looking forward to the international break, so Everton are given a 43% chance of winning, with another solid defensive display expected (51% chance BTTS 'no') - 1-0.

Back the 1-0 @ 7.06/1

Honours even in North London

Arsenal vs Tottenham - SUN 16:30

image011.png

Arsenal were comfortably second best to Liverpool last weekend, in what was another poor defensive display, with new signing David Luiz at fault for two goals (xG: LIV 2.74 - 1.20 ARS). The Gunners again struggled to create good chances, and have averaged just 1.15 xGF per game so far. Tottenham have had a strange few weeks; the euphoria of somehow getting a point at Manchester City, followed by a disappointing home defeat to Newcastle. In both games, Spurs really struggled in attack (0.12 and 1.24 xGF), with something not quite right. A tight North London derby is expected, with a low-scoring affair between two sides struggling to create good chances, with a 56% chance of BTTS and a 50% chance of under 2.5 - 1-1.
