Toffees to extend good start

Toffees to extend good start

Aston Villa have been very disappointing so far this season, conceding a lot of good chances in both matches so far (4.68 xGA). Everton will be licking their lips at the thought of coming up against this Villa defence, though they haven't exactly set the world alight in attack this season. Infogol calculates a 62% chance of Under 2.5 goals here, and just a 43% chance of both teams scoring, while Everton are favourites to get the win (47%), so a narrow away win is expected, 0-1.

Canaries to pile more misery on Lampard

Norwich vs Chelsea - SAT 12:30

Norwich were very impressive in victory over Newcastle last weekend, with Teemu Pukki stealing the headlines after a hat-trick. Chelsea are still winless under Frank Lampard, and rightly so after a 1-1 draw with Leicester last weekend (xG: CHE 1.21 - 1.13 LEI). This is a potential banana skin for Chelsea, with Infogol expecting a low-scoring game (62% chance Under 2.5 Goals), another 1-1 for the Blues.

Saints to get off the mark

Brighton vs Southampton - SAT 15:00

Brighton have made an impressive start to the season under Graham Potter, and were unfortunate not to beat West Ham last weekend (xG: BHA 2.42 - 0.93 WHU). Southampton were very impressive against Liverpool, being extremely unfortunate to lose that game (xG: SOU 2.64 - 1.46 LIV). They have been playing very well, and Infogol thinks their high-press can cause Brighton problems here, with a 40% chance of a Saints win, and 53% chance of BTTS, 1-2.

Another 'L' for Roy

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace - SAT 15:00

United impressed against Wolves, and would have picked up a deserved three points had Paul Pogba not missed his penalty, but the early signs are positive for Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Crysyal Palace were woeful against Sheffield United last weekend, but this challenge suits them better, as they will likely cause problems on the counter attack. Infogol expected a high-scoring game (60% chance over 2.5) with both teams hitting the net (58% BTTS) in a home win, 3-1.

Foxes to get first win

Sheffield United vs Leicester - SAT 15:00

Sheffield United remain unbeaten after two games, rightly beating Crystal Palace last weekend after a solid defensive display. Leicester impressed at Chelsea last Sunday, with many suggesting they deserved to win the game after a strong second half display. The Infogol model sees another cagey game at Bramall Lane involving an organised Blades defence, with a 54% chance of Under 2.5 goals, but Leicester are taken to get the win (49% chance), 0-1.

Honours even at Vicarage Road

Watford vs West Ham - SAT 15:00

Watford are pointless and goalless after two matches following a 1-0 defeat at Everton last weekend, though their process hasn't been as bad as results would suggest (0.90 xGF, 0.98 xGA per game). West Ham on the other hand took another 'xG beating' at Brighton last weekend, with the signs being that their defensive process hasn't improved. A tight game is expected between two teams desperate to register a first win, with a 51% chance of Under 2.5 goals, 1-1.

Arsenal to misfire at Anfield

Liverpool vs Arsenal - SAT 17:30

Liverpool rode their luck last weekend against Southampton, but that was after a gruelling 120 minutes in the sweltering heat of Istanbul, so can be forgiven for a lacklustre performance. They had the second best defensive process in the league last season according to xG, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see them perform like that here. Arsenal were very fortunate to beat Burnley last weekend (xG: ARS 1.01 - 1.92 BUR), and have generated just 2.24 xGF in two games against Burnley and Newcastle which is a very poor return. Liverpool have a 63% chance of winning this game, with both teams to score 'no' looking interesting with a 48% chance, home shutout, 2-0.

Easy City win at Vitality

Bournemouth vs Manchester City - SUN 14:00

Bournemouth were comfortable winners last weekend against Aston Villa, going 2-0 up at half-time and sitting on the lead. Somehow Manchester City didn't beat Tottenham last weekend in what was a near-perfect performance (xG: MCI 3.39 - 0.12 TOT). They are a machine, and have generated 6.46 xGF so far this season. An away win is expected (72%), while it may not be as high-scoring as their opener, with Under 3.5 goals a 59% chance according to Infogol, 0-2.

No respite for Bruce

Tottenham vs Newcastle - SUN 16:30

Tottenham were hammered last weekend by City, but managed to escape with an unlikely point, and an undeserved one according to expected goals. They couldn't have asked for a better game to follow up that performance. Newcastle were comfortably beaten by Norwich last weekend, as again they struggled to create good chances. Steve Bruce's side are expected to struggle to make an impact on this game, with a Tottenham win expected (61%), both teams to score 'no' a 58% chance, 2-0.

Wolves to get off the mark

Wolves vs Burnley - SUN 16:30

Wolves have had a taxing schedule to kick off the season, but have performed well, and come through two tough games (Leicester away, Manchester United home) with two points. Burnley impressed at Arsenal last weekend and were unfortunate not get at least a point according to xG. They will have a go at what could prove a much-changed Wolves line-up with their Europa League qualifying commitments, meaning an entertaining game is fancied by Infogol (55% chance Over 2.5 goals), with a 54% chance of both teams scoring, but Wolves are expected to come out on top no matter what team plays, 2-1.
