After a dramatic push in Sweden, Kevin Hatchard's looking for some post-Eurovision excitement in Austria.
"Six of Rapid Vienna's last ten league games have featured at least four goals, as have four of their last six meetings with Grodig."
SV Grodig v Rapid Vienna
Wednesday May 27, 17:30
Swedish salvation in the Superettan for us yesterday, as defeat was averted late on. Our boys Degerfors looked set to hand Sirius their first away win of the season, but an 88th-minute equaliser from Peter Samuelsson made it 1-1, and our stake was returned. We'll use the money to jet off to Austria.
The Eurovision caravan has departed Vienna, with faint echoes of Mans Zelmerlow's Swedish winner "Heroes" still hanging in the air. My wife is back from the contest, with tales of appearing on both Slovenian and Finnish television, sporting her crocheted Conchita Wurst beard. So very showbiz.
Something has to replace the Eurovision excitement, and we're hoping it's this evening's Bundesliga clash between Grodig and Rapid Vienna.
Rapid can't catch the leaders Red Bull Salzburg, but they do still need to make sure of a top-two finish and qualification for the Champions League. As for Grodig, they need just one more point from their last three games to secure a top-flight place for next season.
There's every reason to expect goals in this one. Zoran Barisic's Rapid have scored 61 goals in 34 games, and have the second-best attack in the league. Grodig have the second-worst defence, with 62 goals leaked, but they also have the best attacking record in the bottom four.
Six of Rapid's last ten Bundesliga outings have featured at least four goals, as have four of their last six meetings with Grodig.
