Times journalist Bill Edgar has been number crunching again and this week he tells us why Chelsea are in a good position to win their FA Cup tie with Manchester United, and why Liverpool should be wary of Bayern Munich in the Champions League...
"Chelsea, who will have home advantage when the sides meet in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday night, are 1-2 with the Betfair Sportsbook to qualify and continue their modern cup dominance over United."
Blues have the cup edge on United
Chelsea once found it impossible to get past Manchester United in the FA Cup or League Cup, but after nine consecutive failures against the Old Trafford club they have turned the tables to win the teams' subsequent six ties. Of those nine domestic cup tie victories for United, one required a replay (hence the draw shown on our chart); Chelsea's six successes have included a League Cup semi-final in which they drew the first leg and won the second. Chelsea, who will have home advantage when the sides meet in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday night, are 1-2 with the Betfair Sportsbook to qualify and continue their modern cup dominance over United. For the first time there is no provision for replays in the fifth round, so there will be extra time and penalties if necessary at Stamford Bridge.
Hoops finally happy at home
Queens Park Rangers have won twice as many FA Cup matches at home this season as in the previous 17 years. They have beaten Championship rivals Leeds United and League One side Portsmouth at Loftus Road this term and can make it three when they face Watford there on Friday night. QPR are [4.8] on the Betfair Exchange to beat their Premier League opponents in 90 minutes. Before this season their only home win in the FA Cup since 2001 had come against Milton Keynes Dons in 2012.
Bayern free-scoring on the road
Bayern Munich have scored at least twice in all but three of their 18 away games this season and will hope to do so again away to Liverpool in the Champions League next Tuesday. Crystal Palace were able to score three at Anfield recently and Liverpool have kept only two clean sheets in their past eight matches. Bayern are 7-5 with Betfair Sportsbook to score two or more goals at Anfield, and 5-1 to hit three or more.
