It's the Ukrainian Cup final tonight, and Kev thinks that Shakhtar Donetsk's chances are being overestimated.
"Shakhtar lost to Dynamo just a few weeks ago, and they haven't even scored against them in the sides' last three meetings."
Dynamo Kyiv v Shakhtar Donetsk
Wednesday 09 May, 18:30
Piast Gliwice kept up their record of enjoying a feast or enduring a famine at home in the Polish Ekstraklasa last night, and it was us who chowed down after the hosts lost 2-0 to Lechia Gdansk.
We're taking in a showpiece event tonight as we visit Ukraine. It's time for another edition of the country's version of El Clasico or Der Klassiker (the Klasychne as it's known) as Dynamo Kyiv take on Shakhtar Donestk in the final of the Ukrainian Cup.
Shakhtar got to the last 16 of the Champions League this season, only to be edged out by eventual semi-finalists Roma. The Miners are set to win the league title, after opening up a five-point gap ahead of Dynamo at the top of the table. It's been a fine season for Shakhtar under the guidance of their highly-rated Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca. The campaign is all the more impressive when you bear in mind that Shakhtar are still effectively in exile from their home in Donetsk due to the continued conflict in the region.
However, I can find little justification for making Shakhtar [1.88] favourites here. Just over three weeks ago, Dynamo beat them 1-0, and the league meeting between the giants in the Ukrainian capital ended 0-0. In fact, Shakhtar haven't won any of their last three games against Dynamo, and haven't scored against them since July last year, their only win against their old foes in the last five clashes.
In a game that should be pretty evenly matched, I'll lay Shakhtar.
