The Goalscorer Gamble: Five scorer bets for this weekend's footy

Dan Fitch is back with another quintet of goalscorer picks and fancies Charlie Austin to score against Tottenham's unreliable defence.

"Change is clearly in the air, with Suarez having scored five in his last five games."

Back Suarez to score the first goal at 4.57/2

If the government announces financial growth next month they will doubtless neglect to mention the Goalscorer Gamble as a possible cause, but anyone who backed my tips last week will know full well where the credit should be given.

Three of our five predictions came in, with Lewis Grabban and Alexander Meier setting things up before Mohamed Salah scored the first goal for Fiorentina at odds of 11.010/1. A £10 treble on that little lot would have returned £739.20.

So it's with confidence that we approach this week's tips and we start in the Premier League with the solitary game between QPR and Spurs.

Two of the Premier League's most exciting young goalscorers go head-to-head as Charlie Austin goes up against Harry Kane. It is Austin who is is currently outscoring his rival with 15 goals to Kane's 14, yet their prices could hardly be more different.

While Kane trades correctly at just over evens, the fact that Tottenham are heavy favourites to win has puffed up Austin's price. That would make sense if it were not for the fact that Spurs rarely keep clean sheets and have conceded in their last seven games. Back Austin at the very generous odds of 3.412/5 to add to their defensive woes.

Having enjoyed some luck last week I'm going to take a punt on a magical FA Cup story. Bradford's Jon Stead was rated as a promising player in his youth but a £1m move to Blackburn did not bring to success and nor did a spell at Sunderland.

Stead became something of a journeyman striker and has tasted little glory until this season. Bradford's FA Cup run has seemed to have brought the best out of the 31-year old and he's scored in every round of the competition so far.

Today Bradford host a Reading side in poor form and with only one clean sheet in their last seven outings. If you still retain any belief in the romance of the FA Cup take a chance on Stead to continue his run with the first goal at 8.07/1.

To Italy now for Palermo's trip to Cesena and one of the brightest young talents in world football. The Palermo forward Paulo Dybala has scored 12 goals in 23 games this season, attracting the interest of English giants such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Five of these goals have come in Dybala's last ten games and he'll be looking to extend that run against relegation threatened Cesena who are on a disastrous run of just three wins in their last 24 games. Back Dybala at likely odds of 3.1511/5 to find the net.

Next we head to Spain for a familiar face who is finding his form. Luis Suarez has not been an overnight success at Barcelona, with 11 goals in 25 a decent, but hardly outstanding, record by his high standards.

Yet change is clearly in the air, with Suarez having scored five in his last five games. Neymar is suspended for Barcelona's home match with mid-table Rayo Vallecano, placing the emphasis further towards the Uruguayan. Take advantage with a bet that Suarez will score the first goal at a probable price of 4.57/2.

Finally we conclude in Scotland with Celtic's trip to Dundee United in the Scottish Cup. The form man for Celtic right now is their attacking midfielder Stefan Johansen, who has five goals from his last seven games.

These goals have helped the Norwegian to break double figures for the first time in his career. Johansen has got ten goals this season, which is remarkable considering that he had only scored 13 career goals prior to this term.

Against a Dundee United side that have failed to win any of their last four games, Johansen looks decent value at likely odds of 3.412/5 to find the net.
