Botafogo RJ v Sport Recife
Tuesday July 18, 00:00 BST
It's been a mixed bag for the hosts this term as they have won five, drawn four and lost four of their 13 matches to date. They are down in 11th place in the table, but a win here in their game in hand could see them go as high as fifth.
The Great Fire, as they are known, burned brightly at Fluminese last week as they won 1-0, but that was their first victory in the league since a 3-1 success over Vasco da Gama four matches earlier.
They have been getting good results in the Copa Libertadores, however it shouldn't go unnoticed that since winning their opening two home league games, their record since has been played four, won one, drawn two and lost one - with the defeat coming against Avai.
The form team of the Campeonato are opponents, Sport Recife, as they come into this fixture on the back of four straight league wins and six in all competitions.
Vanderlei Luxemburgo has taken over at Sport and the vastly experienced manager has the team purring. Usually I would have reservations about them being away from home, but their once woeful record outside of Recife has improved dramatically of late as their three latest outings have seen them draw at Atletico Mineiro and then win at Santos and Coritiba.
The visitors are in such good heart that I wouldn't be backing any of their opponents at odds-on at the moment, so with Botafogo trading at around the [1.99] mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
