Two of the form teams of the Championship clash this afternoon and Paul Robinson is backing Sheffield Wednesday to take at least a point from their visit to Turf Moor.
"Stuart Gray still hasn’t been appointed on a permanent basis, but it’s only a matter of time and three points today would surely force Milan Mandarić’s hand."
Lay Burnley v Sheffield Wednesday @ 1.9420/21
Burnley have managed to cling on to second place in the league thanks to back to back victories over Huddersfield and Yeovil but they aren't quite firing like they were earlier on in the campaign. A blistering start to the season saw them top the division for many weeks but a spell of one win in seven in the run up to the festive period saw them surrender their lead. While they have won three of their last four, two of them came against an out of form Blackpool and second from bottom Yeovil.
Manager Sean Dyche will point to the fact that they haven't lost at Turf Moor all year - eight wins and four draws - but if you look at their last five in front of their own fans, two of them finished level and the three victories were all by a one goal margin. Obviously a win is a win, but it's not like they've been steamrollering their opponents.
Sheffield Wednesday made a miserable start to their campaign and manager Dave Jones paid the price at the beginning of December. Stuart Gray was installed as caretaker boss and he got off to a flying start with victory over Leicester. The Owls did go on to lose two of their next three, but since then it's been four undefeated in the league, with their last two results being a 2-0 win over Blackpool and a 6-0 trouncing of Leeds.
Those latter two matches were played at Hillsborough and they may have only won once on the road this term - 1-0 at Watford in mid December - but they've only lost four of their dozen away this season, and avoiding defeat is all we need them to do this afternoon.
Stuart Gray still hasn't been appointed on a permanent basis, but it's only a matter of time and three points today would surely force Milan Mandarić's hand. I'm not suggesting they will definitely win as Burnley are one of the top teams in the league, but Wednesday are on the rise. All things considered, with the hosts trading at around the 1.9420/21 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
