Andrew Hughes thinks Aston Villa can more or less confirm their Premier League survival against Southampton and help to land another cross-sport multiple in the process
"Villa have a poor away record this season, but they have picked up in recent weeks, scoring ten goals in their last four outings on the road..."
Aston Villa's resurgence under Tim Sherwood has been remarkable and they can all but guarantee another season in the top flight with a point on Saturday.
Southampton's strong home record has kept them in contention but their season is in danger of fizzling out in disappointing fashion and they may even miss out on Europa League football next season after a run of three defeats and a draw in four games.
Villa have a poor away record this season, but they have picked up in recent weeks, scoring ten goals in their last four outings on the road, and in Christian Benteke, have the most in-form goal scorer in the division. Back them to bag a point.
With just one game to go, Chennai Super Kings find themselves in a familiar position at the top of the IPL and should have no trouble seeing a lacklustre Punjab side.
Kings XI set the pace last season, before losing in the final to Kolkata, but they have struggled all season and a run of seven games without a victory saw them drop right out of contention after a mixed start. Their opponents on Saturday are ensured of a place in the knock-out stages but are not absolutely guaranteed to finish in the top two so won't be easing off in their final game and a win for Chennai is a safe bet.
League leaders Northampton have won two of their last three clashes with Leicester and they travel to Welford Road for their final game of the Aviva Premiership regular season with a healthy twelve point lead over their local rivals.
But although Saints have had the better season, they may struggle against a home side with everything to play for. Victory would ensure Leicester's semi-final place, whilst defeat would leave them vulnerable, and up against a Saints side with nothing to play for, that extra motivation should give Tigers the edge. They've only lost once at home since November 2013 and can edge this derby to clinch a top four spot.
