FA Cup Third Round weekend is always one of the busiest and most exciting weekends of the season. Luke Moore rounds up the action...
"it was the standout result of the weekend and Oxford will go into the draw for the fourth round in buoyant mood, knowing that a home tie against anyone holds no fear for them; the Us have lost just once in their last 21 games on their own patch. Michael Appleton's side are still ranked at 1000.0 to lift that famous old trophy..."
After a Saturday of few, if any, FA Cup shocks, it was left to League Two Oxford United to provide the drama on Sunday and they duly obliged by knocking out Premier League Swansea City by three goals to two at the Kassam Stadium.
Highly-rated midfield player Kemar Roofe was the star of the show, contributing two goals and essentially running the game from the centre of the park against an admittedly under-strength Swansea.
Nonetheless it was the standout result of the weekend and Oxford will go into the draw for the fourth round in buoyant mood, knowing that a home tie against anyone holds no fear for them; the Us have lost just once in their last 21 games on their own patch. Michael Appleton's side are still ranked at 1000.0 to lift that famous old trophy...
Elsewhere in the world's oldest cup competition, National League side Eastleigh forced a replay against struggling Championship outfit Bolton in testing conditions down in Hampshire. Both teams will be hoping to win the replay in order to secure a potentially lucrative fourth round tie against a bigger team, but Wanderers go into the replay as short-priced favourites.
At the top of the betting, both Man City and Arsenal easily progressed into the fourth round by casting aside Norwich and Sunderland respectively, and the holders are rated as 6.86/1 to win their third cup in a row with City slightly shorter at 6.25/1. With Guus Hiddink back at the helm (a manager that lifted the FA Cup last time he was boss of the club), Chelsea are also priced up at 6.86/1, and they cast Scunthorpe aside with relative ease on Sunday afternoon.
For those in the market for a dark horse winner, Crystal Palace sit at 25.024/1 and Stoke a touch longer at 26.025/1.
All eyes now turn to Monday night's fourth round draw on BBC One from 19:00.
