The Editors' Premier League Betting Battle 2018/19: Round 38

Cardiff Manager Neil Warnock
Joe's hoping to be sporting a big Neil Warnock smile come 16:45 on Sunday

It's the final round of the 2018/19 Betting Battle and it's Joe's to lose. Can Mike catch him? And what weird and wonderful bets can the the rest come up with to try and land a huge winner? Let's find out...

"Bournemouth to win away at Palace is my final selection of the season. If they fail to win, or if Joe tips a winner, then fair play and very well done. It's a big congrats from me."

Go against the goals market at Old Trafford

Joe Dyer
Back Under 3.5 Goals @ 1.87 in Man Utd v Cardiff
Sunday, 15:00

The final battle week is here and a winner should keep me clear of Mike to lift the trophy - assuming one of those hail mary punts from one of the also-rans doesn't drop of course!

While I am looking to go out with a trophy, Manchester United are looking at a season without silverware and they conclude a pretty miserable campaign at home to already relegated Cardiff in a match that Betfair punters are convinced will deliver goals, over 2.5 a 1.454/9 shot on the Betfair Exchange.

I'm not so sure.

First up, the home side will be missing a fair helping of firepower here - doubts include Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku and more - and they haven't been banging them in for a few weeks now anyway.

Cardiff are one of the more defensive sides in the league and five of their last six have gone under 2.5 goals with only last weekend's must-win against Crystal Palace bucking the trend. I can't see Neil Warnock letting his side go out of the league on the wrong side of a painful walloping.

This could of course be one of those notorious final day goalfests, but the stats don't suggest it will be so let's take an odds-on plunge on under 3.5 goals being scored at Old Trafford.

And come the final whistle I'll hopefully be doing a triumphant lap of honour around the Dyer Stadium!

Cherries to blossom at Selhurst

Mike Norman
Back Bournemouth @ 4.03/1 to beat Crystal Palace
Sunday, 15:00

To win this season's Betting Battle I need Joe to tip up a loser on the final day and Bournemouth to beat the Eagles at Selhurst Park.

With my mind games head on I'm confident Joe will back a loser - he's thinking long and hard about what to go for and that's never a positive sign - so it's down to the Cherries to do the business for me. And I think they've got a great chance.

I was quite surprised to see that Crystal Palace have the second worst home record in the Premier League, and by some distance too. Only Huddersfield have a worse record and every other club in the division have secured at least three more home points than the Eagles. Bournemouth have won more games on the road this season (five) than Palace have at home (four).

Another reason I like the away win is because final day games have been known to be goalfests in seasons gone by, and if this game turns out to be a wide open attacking contest then I'd always fancy Eddie Howe's men to outscore teams in the bottom half of the table. Roy Hodgson's men have scored just 14 home goals this term, Bournemouth have scored 23 away goals.

So there you have it. Bournemouth to win away at Palace is my final selection of the season. If they fail to win, or if Joe tips a winner, then fair play and very well done. It's a big congrats from me. Though don't rule out Jas, Dan or Harry landing a monster price winner either.

Vardy to inspire Foxes to win goal fest

Dan Thomas
Back Leicester to beat Chelsea, Over 3.5 Goals and Vardy and Hazard to score @ 20.8 (Same Game Multi)
Sunday, 15:00

We're in the dying embers of this year's Battle and I'm huge odds to make an unlikely comeback. Sound familiar? So conjuring up the spirit of Lucas Moura and Georginio Wijnaldum, I'm going to for a huge Same Game Multi to land a famous victory.

Part one of the acca is backing Leicester to make it five home wins from six with a victory over a Chelsea side, who played 120 minutes on Thursday night and have already secured Champions League football for next season.

Next up is Over 3.5 Goals. Opta tell us that among teams to have played in at least 10 Premier League campaigns, Leicester have seen more goals on average than any other side in their final day fixture (4.3 - 51 goals in 12 games).

And I'm rounding off by backing the respective star-men to net. Jamie Vardy has scored in his last three appearances against Chelsea - 11/10 as a standalone price looks a bet by the way - while Eden Hazard will want to mark his likely last Premier League showing for the Blues with a goal.

Can't lose right?
