The Editors' Premier League Betting Battle 2018/19: Round 33

Mike is backing Unai Emery's Arsenal to return from Goodison with three points

Mike was the only winner last week, returning to the Battle lead as Burnley did the honours. Here's where the editors' tenners are headed on what is a reduced Premier League programme...

Gunners can make a big statement in top four battle

Mike Norman
Back Arsenal @ 2.47/5 to beat Everton

A quick one from me this week given that the FA Cup semi-finals have robbed us of a full Premier League programme, meaning options are thin on the ground.

And it's mainly a price-based punt I'm going for this weekend as I fully expected Arsenal to be quite a bit shorter than the 2.47/5 they are trading at to win at Everton. In fact they opened up at around the 2.26/5 mark and for some reason have been on the slide, which is good news for me.

True, the Gunners don't have a brilliant away record but the fact is they have the bit firmly between their teeth now as they chase a top four finish, and they go into this clash in great league form having won five and drawn one of their last six. They also have a terrific recent record against the Toffees having won all of their last four clashes, scoring 15 goals in the process including a 5-2 win at Goodison Park last season.

Everton's form has improved also in recent weeks but I still very much regard them as an inconsistent team and their record against big six clubs isn't great. They did beat Chelsea in their last home game but the Blues were in terrible away form at the time, and I'm happy to oppose Marco Silva's men this week.

Magpies to make it six in a row at home

Dan Thomas
Back Newcastle to beat Crystal Palace and under 2.5 Goals at 4.88 (Same Game Multi)
Saturday, 15:00

Both these teams were pretty insipid in midweek, losing to the two north London sides 2-0 respectively, but I'm backing Newcastle to bounce back on home soil, where they've won the last five in a row.

The Magpies enjoy facing Palace, losing just one of their last 11 Premier League meetings, and the Eagles haven't won at St James' Park since March 1998.

Around 13/8 for the home win looks eminently backable, as does Newcastle 'win to nil' at 3/1, but I'll boost the price to 4.88 by adding Under 2.5 Goals, using the Same Game Multi option.

Palace have only scored in one of their last seven trips to St James', and looked particularly flat at Spurs, but they are generally a tough nut to crack and I don't expect Newcastle to score more than two.

Count on goals at Goodison

Back Aaron Ramsey to score, Over 2.5 Goals and Away Team Over 1.5 goals @ 7.47(Same Game Multi)

Dropping and staying second from bottom has made me adopt a new tactic; stick to what I know. Who do I know better than any other side? Arsenal.

Now even though I hope Arsenal win, and have a good chance of beating Everton at Goodison Park, I can't back it - the Gunners have been sub-par away from home and have yet to keep a clean sheet on their travels this season. But what that does mean, is that there will be goals, as there always is in this fixture.

Both of these teams play openly, and even though the Toffees kept a clean sheet against West Ham and Chelsea in their last two games, they conceded three against Newcastle. The Over 2.5 Goals market isn't worth much to back alone, so I'm pairing it up with Away Team Over 1.5 Goals as Arsenal have scored more Premier League goals against Everton (107) than any side has against another in the competition's history.

I will also add in Aaron Ramsey to Score into this Same Game Multi. He has been the main man for Arsenal in the last couple of months and has a great record against the Toffees. He has been directly involved in nine goals in his last five Premier League games against Everton. He's got more goals (6) and assists (4) against Everton than he has against any other side domestically.
