Michael Lintorn picks bets for Tuesday night's Champions League play-off games at Maccabi Tel Aviv, Monaco and Shakhtar.
"FC Basel were on course for a 2-1 first-leg success until a 96th-minute Eran Zahavi equaliser. That was the only game of their ten this season that they didn’t win. They have won five from five away and scored at least three times in each."
Recommended Bet: Back FC Basel to qualify against Maccabi Tel Aviv @ 2.1211/10
Maccabi Tel Aviv 3.3512/5 v FC Basel 2.3411/8; The Draw 3.613/5

Besides losing, first-leg results in European double headers don't come much worse than 2-2 home draws, which surrender almost all away-goal initiative. It isn't surprising then to learn that FC Basel are now judged 2.1211/10 outsiders to progress from this tie after failing to claim victory in Switzerland.
However, they were on course for a 2-1 success until a 96th-minute Eran Zahavi equaliser and there is plenty still pointing in their favour. That was the only game of their ten this season that they didn't win and they have won five from five away and scored at least three times in each.
By contrast, Maccabi Tel Aviv have leaked at least twice in four consecutive outings and haven't prevailed in any of their five meetings with FC Basel, all of which have taken place since July 2013.
Recommended Bet: Back FC Basel to qualify @ 2.1211/10
Monaco 2.3211/8 v Valencia 3.55/2; The Draw 3.45

Unless Monaco can overturn a 3-1 first-leg deficit, one of last term's quarter-finalists won't be making it into the group stage in 2015/16 but, if this is to be goodbye, they are likely to depart staying true to one of their 2014/15 patterns: their love of an evens goal count.
Seven of their eight Champions League matches since December 2014 have finished with an even number of goals: zero on one occasion, two twice and four in four instances, including all three of their qualifying fixtures to date this summer.
They are on a five-game evens streak at home in Europe, while eight of their most recent nine Stade Louis II encounters across all competitions have dodged odds, including the latest three.
Recommended Bet: Back there to be an even number of goals @ 1.9310/11
Shakhtar 1.695/7 v Rapid Vienna 5.79/2; The Draw 4.216/5
Live on BT Sport Extra 3
They won't take anything for granted after what their opponents did to Ajax, yet a sixth successive Champions League group appearance should be obtained by Shakhtar following 1-0 triumph in Austria last week.
Indeed, they look quite an appealing price to win at 1.695/7 having given up a mere three goals in their previous six continental "home" matches, the latter five of which were played in Lviv, keeping four clean sheets and netting 14 goals of their own.
The trend that has caught this writer's eye though is that half of those clashes were 1-0 Shakhtar at half time, which is the same 45-minute scoreline that materialised in the first leg.
Recommended Bet: Back Shakhtar to lead 1-0 at half time @ 4.03/1
