Capital One Cup Tips: Fulham and QPR in for cup shocks

Martin Jol's Fulham were knocked out at this stage last season

"Sustaining their presence in the Premier League is a priority and if Jol decides to rest some of his big guns, the options in reserve aren’t exactly brimming with talent or good recent form."
Best Bet: Lay Fulham to win at Burton @ 1.594/7

Lewis Jones goes in search of some Capital One Cup value and fancies some lower league clubs to grab the headlines...

Burton v Fulham, Tuesday 19:45, Match Odds: Burton 7.613/2, Fulham 1.584/7, The Draw 3.814/5
There's always one Premier League side that struggle at this stage of the League Cup. Although Fulham should really be seeing this cup competition as a chance to bring some silverware to west London, in reality, it's probably viewed as more of a nuisance by boss Martin Jol. Sustaining their presence in the Premier League is a priority and if Jol decides to rest some of his big guns, the options in reserve aren't exactly brimming with talent or good recent form. Philippe Senderos is a prime example of the calibre of players Fulham have as back-up. They are potentially vulnerable to any side that are playing with confidence, and Burton certainly fit that bill. Under manager Gary Rowett, Albion are a rising force in League Two and have started the new campaign with some sparkling performances. The former Derby full-back has an impressive 45% win ratio since taking the reins in 2012. He can lead his side to a result in front of a packed house.
Best Bet: Lay Fulham to win @ 1.594/7

Peterborough v Reading, Tuesday 19:45, Match Odds: Peterborough 3.412/5, Reading 2.26/5, The Draw 3.412/5
These two sides both possess the firepower to make this a real corking affair. Striker Britt Assombalonga was purchased for a club record fee by the free-scoring Posh and has settled in very nicely. He has linked up well with wantaway creative force Lee Tomlin, and if both play, the Reading will have questions to answer. The Royals, although conceding goals at rapid rates in the Championship, have an array of attacking ammunition that has the potential to run riot against League One opposition. The main man to fear for the Posh defenders will be Adam Le Fondre, who showed last season that he's one of an array of lower league goal-getters that have the talent to prosper at the top level.
Best Bet: Back both teams to score @ 1.618/13

QPR v Swindon, Tuesday 19:45, Match Odds: QPR 1.618/13, Swindon 8.07/1, The Draw 4.57/2
QPR can be likened to a teabag; they're never in the cup for long. The list of lower league sides to have knocked the R's out of a cup competition is pretty frightening. Northampton (twice), Port Vale (twice), Leyton Orient (twice), Vauxhall Motors, Rochdale and MK Dons have all triumphed over their seemingly more illustrious opponents. Rangers' squad is very threadbare after a summer of departures, and Harry Redknapp isn't likely to risk his bigger stars like Junior Hoilett and Andy Johnson, who are both struggling with injuries. Swindon will fancy their chances.
Best Bet: Lay QPR to beat Swindon @ 1.625/8
