The "Total Goals Guys" thank their lucky stars for late goals at White Hart Lane and Anfield
We made a profit for the second week running. That's the good news. The bad news however is that it was a measly 8% and when you start the weekend on little more than £15, it's a tad disappointing that you hit Monday on £16.45.
It could have been so much worse however and we're thankful for both a late Steven Gerard penalty in front of the Kop and a [1.01] smasher at White Hart Lane. If it wasn't for these two going in we could have been scraping around with the £2 minimum stake backs for the time being.
"[1.01] Smashed" is a phrase or expression you will be familiar with if you are a regular visitor to the betfair tennis forums. Basically it means that one player's price goes down to the shortest possible (nothing to back and [1.01] to lay) and they still don't win! It's quite rare in the soccer markets however and only really occurs with goals deep into stoppage time. Manchester United's very late equaliser was one such occurrence - the goal cancelled out Berbatov's opener in the first half and saved our [1.25] back.
We fancied Sunderland to be on the end of an Anfield backlash on Saturday. We were on 3 goals or more at [1.78] and although the tempo was there for the hosts in the first half, the goals didn't materialise until the second period. Peter Crouch soon got things going shortly after the re-start with a header before the hour mark and followed this up in supplying Torres with the second on 69'. Fortunately Liverpool pushed on for the entire 90 minutes and forced a penalty 2 minutes from time that Gerard found the net with, despite Gordon getting a hand to.
There was a surprise or two in Real Madrid's trip to Almeria on Saturday evening. The league leaders slipped to their third away defeat of the season and managed to do so without scoring a single goal. Thankfully however, the [1.38] 2 goals or more back was safe thanks to Juanito's 18th minute opener and Negredo's penalty 2 minutes after the interval, both enough to hand the hosts a famous 2-0 victory.
Barcelona were the big letdown in Sunday nights' match with Osasuna. It took the Catalans 88 minutes to get on the score sheet through Xavi, on a wet and miserable night at the Camp Nou. There was no such downpour on the goal front and with a final score of 1-0, high scoring layers were quids in with 3 goals or more hitting [1.7] minutes before kick-off.
There are some tasty ties next weekend with Liverpool travelling to Stamford Bridge and of course The Manchester Derby. With the Old Firm returning to domestic action there are some tough decisions to make in the week ahead . . .
