The Total Goals Guys start to recover but tell us why Celtic let them down

Rangers got our weekend off to a flyer. We were on 3 goals or more and it took the Gers no fewer than 37 minutes to see this [1.65] shot through all on their own. The final score of 4-0 was harsh on St.Mirren it has to be said, they proved difficult to break down in the opening quarter, but when Chris Burke popped up unmarked at the back post to open the scoring after 27 minutes it spelled the beginning of a nightmare 10 minute spell for the visitors. Haining's sending off for a second bookable on Spurs-bound Alan Hutton on 30 was quickly followed up by Rangers' second and third through Boyd and Whittaker.

It isn't always this easy as Sunday's match at The Falkirk Stadium soon proved. The recent history between Falkirk and either of the Old Firm suggested that goals could have been on the cards but the hosts had other ideas and clearly relented from an earlier season game plan to attack sides of the calibre of Celtic. All that took to claim the points here was a header from 5ft 8ins Scott McDonald who connected with a Nakamura cross on the stroke of half time. Two goal backers such as ourselves were denied salvation for the [1.25] back late on when Jan Venegoor of Hesselink's header rebounded off an upright.

It was a close call in Bilbao on Sunday in Barca's trip to Athletico. The visitors lost further ground on leaders Real with yet another draw away from home but the 1-1 final score gave us our return at [1.32]. Bojan had given Barcelona a half time lead with a goal 11 minutes shy of the interval but instead of building on this in the second period it was the hosts who replied through Llorente, again 11 minutes before the refs whistle blew for time. To be exact it was the visitors 5th draw in 10 away matches this term and gave rivals Real Madrid the opportunity to go 9 points clear with a win over Villarreal.

It was an opportunity that was too good for the champions to pass up and they found themselves 1 up as early as 8 minutes into this one through Robinho. Rossi quickly replied on 15' taking his goal tally for the season to 9 and more significantly took his joint total with Nihat to 22 - 1 more than that of Raul and Van Nistelrooy. Our 3 goals back at [1.74] looked good at this point but despite the visitors shaky defensive record this term they held out until HT. Robinho made sure of our back 9 minutes into the second but the goals didn't stop there in this one. Capdevila conjured an equaliser with quarter of an hour to play but Real ran out 3-2 winners in thanks to Sneijder's quick reply less than 2 minutes later.

A yield of 14% was achieved, a result we would all take any day of the week if we were being honest but personally as we look to dig ourselves out of a bit of a hole it was disappointing that Celtic's late effort hit the post and looks like being responsible for denying us a profit in the region of 39%.

On the evidence of the past weekend it might be wise to limit ourselves to a maximum of 4 picks per weekend, but it all depends on what the fixtures and more importantly the market throws up. You've got to allow yourself at least some flexibility now and again, just not too much!
