Swansea will complete first derby double
In addition to tonight's Reading versus QPR match, there are two Football League matches on the TV this weekend, in Peterborough and Swansea. Here's what we're betting on in both encounters, as well as an intriguing collision between Ipswich and Sheffield United at Portman Road...
Ipswich v Sheffield United (Saturday, 3pm)
Gary Speed was handed the chance to manage Wales despite failing to impress in his short spell in charge of Sheffield United, however his predecessor Micky Adams hasn't fared much better so far and - after they dropped into the relegation zone in midweek, there's now a realistic chance of him relegating his boyhood club, who are now winless in seven. Given that dreadful form, and Ipswich's recent recovery under Paul Jewell with successive victories, [2.0] on the home win is irresistible.
Peterborough v Southampton (Saturday, 5.20pm, Sky Sports 2)
These two League One promotion chasers get a TV audience this week and if Peterborough's 5-3 triumph over Sheffield Wednesday is an indicator, it could be a hero. All ten of Posh's meetings with top-ten teams have produced over 2.5 goals, so at least three goals should be expected at [1.61], though as five have had five or more, over 4.5 may be an even shrewder punt at [4.3]. Darren Ferguson's side have won five in a row at London Road, which is why we're backing them at [3.15].
Swansea v Cardiff (Sunday, 1.15pm, BBC1)
The stakes are higher than ever in the second south Wales derby of the season with Swansea and Cardiff both very much in contention for automatic promotion to the Premier League. The Swans one the first meeting of the campaign 1-0, the first away victory in nine meetings between the rivals and that gives them a chance to complete first ever derby in the fixture. Brendan Rodgers' men have the best average points haul against top-half opponents of any club in the division and have won three in four at home to the Bluebirds, so our money is on Swansea making history at [2.2].
A home win treble pays a tasty £114.40 for a £10 stake on the Betfair Coupon...
