Day 185: We're backing Nottingham Forest and Swansea to provide over 2.5 goals at [2.34]

The Championship play-offs are consistently viewed as one of the highlights of the English football season but the 2007-08 and 2008-09 instalments weren't the most exciting, even though they had fairytale finales.

Last year was a huge return to form, with an average of 4.2 goals a game and a five-goal thriller of a final between Blackpool and Cardiff, and with the Bluebirds and Nottingham Forest back in the mix again from the class of 2010-11, there's every justification for expecting this month's to be even better.

That's why odds of [2.34] on the curtain-raiser of the 2010-11 edition against Swansea producing over 2.5 goals looks incredible value, especially as the regular season encounters finished 3-1 and 3-2, while Forest's two matches in last term's play-offs produced a staggering ten goals.

The first-leg hosts have an absurd amount of striking talent with the likes of Marcus Tudgay, Kris Boyd, David McGoldrick, Robert Earnshaw, Dele Adebola, Nathan Tyson, Dexter Blackstock and Robbie Findlay all at their disposal.

They've put that firepower to good use in recent fixtures, scoring 14 goals in the four victories with which they signed off for the regular campaign. The combination of attacking prowess and a fairly leaky defence is the reason why eight of their last nine games have featured over 2.5 goals.

Swansea's impressive defensive record is presumably a major factor in the hefty price on a goalfest, however they are not quite as resilient on their travels, leaking an average of 1.35 an outing, and seven of their last ten matches contained three goals or more.

Our bet: We're backing Nottingham Forest and Swansea to provide over 2.5 goals at [2.34], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £13.40. The same punt pays only £11 with Betfred. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
