The Betfair Football £10 Bet of the Day
Day 132: We're backing Scunthorpe to beat Sheffield United at [2.74]
Sheffield United head into this Championship relegation six-pointer against a Scunthorpe side that are finally showing signs of life following a dismal run of form on the back of a defeat in another six-pointer away to the team directly above them in the table, Crystal Palace, leaving them five points from safety.
That 1-0 loss at Selhurst Park was their sixth in seven on the road and they are still waiting for their first victory under lifelong fan Micky Adams, whose record since arriving from Port Vale in December reads played ten, won none, drawn four and lost six, so Scunthorpe have to be fancied at [2.74].
The Iron carry some rare momentum into their third successive fixture at Glanford Park having ended their 14-match, six-month wait for a home win by beating high-flying Nottingham Forest last Wednesday, a result they built on by keeping another clean sheet against Derby at the weekend.
The overachievers from north Lincolnshire have also proven to be a bogey club for the Blades since their promotion in 2009, winning all three of their meetings, the latest the most impressive of the lot as they stuffed the former Premier League side 4-0 at Bramall Lane back in September.
They haven't lost in six against Sheffield United in total, a streak stretching all the way back to 1983, while there were last conquered at home by the south Yorkshire club way back in 1959.
Our bet: We're backing Scunthorpe to defeat Sheffield United at [2.74], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £17.40. The same punt pays only £13.75 with Paddy Power. Sign up for a new account now and have losing bets up to a total of £30 refunded for a week.
