QPR plan bid for Premier League defender
Despite being held to a goalless draw by Derby at Loftus Road on Monday, it is fairly unthinkable that QPR will fail to convert their current position at the top of the Championship into a spot in the Premier League next season, so naturally they are already plotting their summer transfer strategy.
According to the Daily Mirror, one of the first players that the Hoops will attempt to capture after promotion is Tottenham right back Kyle Naughton, who has spent the majority of this campaign on loan at Leicester having failed to establish himself at White Hart Lane.
The 22-year-old defender has been in excellent form in recent months, earning a place in the Championship team of the season for the second time in his career, and it's that level of performance that makes us sceptical of the Mirror's claims that he will be signed for just £2 million.
Spurs are believed to have paid around £10 million for Naughton and his Sheffield United team-mate Kyle Walker two years ago and with Naughton the more experienced of the pair and having proved his ability at the Walkers Stadium of late, it's unlikely that he is now worth only a fifth of that figure.
The Mirror suggest that QPR boss Neil Warnock's interest in the full back was initially sparked by his time in Sheffield United's academy, though whether there's any truth to that or if it's just a convenient link for reporters to draw is unclear, as Warnock was long gone when he broke through.
The west Londoners boast an eight-point lead over Cardiff with four fixtures remaining and can wrap up the title in the Welsh capital this weekend, but if they lose there's a slight chance of being caught, as they are yet to host Hull and Leeds and visit Watford, the only team to beat them at Loftus Road.
Will QPR be made to settle for second? They can be laid at [1.14]...
