Reading test the toughest yet for Preston

It's not just the Champions League providing the Tuesday night entertainment, because there are 11 Football League matches taking place too. As ever, we've picked out a highlight from each division and offered our advice on what to back...

Reading v Preston
Phil Brown refused to give up even when nobody else fancied Preston to retain their Championship status and has been rewarded with three successive victories, and a fourth tonight will push them to within five points of safety. However, the trip to in-form Reading, who have just assumed a play-off position, is arguably the toughest of their entire run-in, as leaders QPR are the only of the last 14 visitors to the Madejski Stadium to have triumphed. Now that the Royals are in the top six though, this match is of greater importance to Preston and they have every chance of a point at [4.0].

Southampton v Charlton
Huddersfield's recent results indicate that they will be taking Southampton to the limit in the battle for the final automatic promotion spot in League One, meaning that the Saints need to claim three points from this potentially tricky fixture. Charlton are the only of the south coast club's last six opponents to have taken a point off them and that transformed the Addicks' fortunes, leading to them picking up their first win in a dozen against Leyton Orient on Saturday. Nigel Adkins' team have won five on the spin at St Mary's though, so should deliver a half-time/full-time success at [2.36].

Accrington v Southend
Combining both current form and the necessity of victory, you'll see few more attractive prices for the rest of the season than the [1.75] on Accrington beating Southend. Stanley will enter the play-off places with three points this evening and as they boast the second best home record in League Two, and seven in a row at the Crown Ground, they are unlikely to be troubled by a Shrimpers side that are stranded in mid-table with little left to play for and have lost four straight away games.
