Luckless Preston to suffer at Scunthorpe

There are 13 matches taking place in the Football League this evening, with almost all set to impact on matters at the bottom and top of each division. We've picked out three of the standout clashes and offered our verdict on who will be taking home the points...

Scunthorpe v Preston
It's not the most glamorous game of the Championship season however for those in attendance at Glanford Park tonight, it could well be the biggest, as Preston look to build on a run of four draws in six with a first victory of 2011 and their fellow strugglers bid to seize the chance to move within a point of safety. Despite sitting 16 points shy of 21st-placed Crystal Palace, Preston can't be dismissed having just faced six of the top eight, holding three and losing by a single goal to the others. Phil Brown's side appear luckless though and with the Iron taking ten points from their last five at home, compared to one in the previous eight, they have to be fancied at [2.52].

Sheffield Wednesday v Peterborough
Things have improved slightly of late for the underperforming Owls, but Hillsborough continues to prove more of a burden than a fortress as Sheffield Wednesday's wait for a League One win as hosts now stretches over three months. The last team they want to be playing therefore are the form side of the division, Peterborough, who have won four successive matches, scoring 15 and not conceding once in the process. It's no surprise then that the Posh are [2.62] to boost their bid for second place.

Bury v Torquay
The Shakers have claimed more points in their last six outings than any other League Two club so with two games in hand on leaders Chesterfield, who boast a ten-point advantage, a title charge is not out of the question. Counting against them is the fact this fixture is rarely won by the home side, while Torquay tripped up top-three chasers Shrewsbury on Saturday with an emphatic 5-0 triumph. Alan Knill's men's recent results at Gigg Lane vindicate trusting them here at odds of [2.04] though.
