Latest transfer news - Portsmouth fire sale

Far be it from us to kick a team when they're down, but you don't have to be much of a mathematician to start wondering how many more players can leave Portsmouth before they have to start thinking about fielding the tea lady in order to get 11 players out on the pitch.

Pompey have been struggling to fill their subs bench already this season - you can name seven, but Steve Cotterill had just four for the 2-0 defeat at home to Cardiff on Saturday, and one of those - midfielder Marlon Pack - joined Cheltenham on loan today.

Midfielder Marc Wilson has been linked with a move to Stoke City all day, and now striker Tommy Smith looks set to sign for QPR, while fellow front Dave Nugent is apparently on the verge of heading back to Burnley.

If all those moves go through, that means Pompey will be left with only 10 of the 14 players they had on duty on Saturday. It's no surprise therefore that they are [2.0] favourites to be relegated again.
