Who should be new Middlesbrough boss?

Gordon Strachan yesterday resigned as Middlesbrough boss after a summer of big spending and a season of poor results.

Boro currently lie in 20th place in the Championship with just three wins from their opening 11 games. Their poor start to the season was indicative of his reign as boss - he won just 13 of his 46 games in charge.

In a statement on the official Middlesbrough website, chairman Steve Gibson said: "Gordon is a man of great integrity. He has torn up his contract and walked away without compensation because he felt it was in the best interests of this football club.

"There are very few managers who have ever done that but that is the mark of the man. He feels he has given it everything he has got here but it hasn't worked out and he has taken full responsibility for that."

Coach Steve Agnew will now be in charge for their game against Nottingham Forest tonight, with Boro out to [4.6] to win that game.

Boro were the pre-season favourites for promotion after bringing in a host of SPL players over the summer, including Scott McDonald and Stephen McManus.
Strachan's side began the season at [7.0] to win the Championship, but have now slipped to [50.0] after their dreadful start.

So, who will be the man to turn things around? Paulo Sousa had success making Swansea hard to beat last season before his Leicester disaster. Ex-player Paul Ince has gone some way to restoring his reputation after his failure at Blackburn.

Gareth Southgate's name will undoubtedly be thrown about, while some fans have been calling for another ex-player and early front runner, Tony Mowbray.

And of course, Alan Curbishley will undoubtedly be linked at some point.
