Bet of the Day - Middlesbrough to lose

Day 167: We're backing Ipswich to beat Middlesbrough at [2.14]

Tonight's Championship clash between Ipswich and Middlesbrough is something of a Tony Mowbray derby, pitting the side he helped guide into the Premier League as captain with his boyhood club and current employers, however we're betting on it being an unhappy evening for the Teesside legend.

After a disappointing spell in charge of Celtic, Mowbray has rebuilt his managerial reputation back at Boro by guiding the pre-season promotion favourites clear of the relegation trouble that engulfed them before his October arrival, and he returns to Portman Road on a five-match unbeaten run.

Ipswich are in even better form under Paul Jewell though. They'd be in play-off contention if the season had started after the former Wigan chief's appointment in mid-January and have shown no sign of cooling their efforts towards the end of the campaign, winning each of their last three games.

Cardiff and Burnley are among the teams that they have overcome in his tenure and despite having improved significantly on the road under Mowbray, Middlesbrough have to be fancied to become the Tractor Boys' latest victims at the tempting price of [2.14].

The 2005-06 UEFA Cup finalists were defeated 3-1 by the East Anglian side at the Riverside Stadium on the opening day and they have also left empty-handed on two of their last three visits to Portman Road, having won only one of their last nine encounters with Ipswich.

Our bet: We're backing Ipswich to defeat Middlesbrough at [2.14], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £11.40. The same punt pays only £10 with Betfred. Sign up for a new account now and have your first bet of up to £25 refunded if it loses.
