Leicester City loan hero desperate to stay
Having gradually fallen out of favour and further down the pecking order at Everton, Yakubu has got his career back on track on loan at Leicester in the Championship this season, and he has enjoyed the experience so much that he is hoping that a permanent transfer can be arranged.
The Nigerian striker was brought in on a short-term basis by Sven-Goran Eriksson in January and has rewarded the former England boss with ten goals in 18 starts to instantly earn the affection of the Foxes fans, a huge increase on the eight strikes he mustered in the previous two years for Everton.
He said: "I think I've had enough (at Everton) and I have to look for somewhere to go - I would love to stay (at Leicester). Hopefully I can settle things there and come back. If I could come and play for Leicester that would be great."
"I had a great time at Everton but I think I have to move on. I've had a great four months and my season has been really good. It feels like home and I feel like I've been here for three or four years - I'm enjoying it. The players and the fans have been really nice to me and hopefully I will see them again."
The 28-year-old also stated that Leicester's Championship status wouldn't put him off joining as he is sure that they are headed for the top-flight and, in an interesting insight for the many Sven sceptics in England, revealed that he hasn't even minded being used off the bench as he knows that his boss believes in him.
Eriksson's side haven't been in the Premier League since 2003-04, however if the current campaign had started on the day of predecessor Paulo Sousa's dismissal, they would have finished joint-sixth. The midlands club are [1.82] to sign off on a high with victory over Ipswich on Saturday.
