Leicester boss Eriksson targets promotion
Leicester City are up to 22nd in the Championship table after enjoying their second league victory of the season against Scunthorpe on Saturday after sacking Paulo Sousa, and they followed the rare three points with the shock revelation that Sven-Goran Eriksson was taking over as manager.
The Foxes are currently eight points off the play-offs but with the Swedish boss admitting that his aim is to take the club back to the Premier League after a seven-year absence, they can be backed at [4.2] to finish in the top six again and [13.5] to secure promotion.
Sven has had a mixed few years since his England exit in 2006, proving popular with Manchester City fans before having his stay there cut short after one season, then having less successful spell with Mexico and Ivory Coast either side of his eventful stint of Notts County director of football.
Eriksson admitted that he carried out more research than usual before taking the job because of his experience at Meadow Lane, and he may have sounded out his former Lazio assistant Roberto Mancini, who had a brief spell with the east midlands team in 2001.
The former England coach expects to be given plenty to spend by the side's new Thai owners, however he'll have to get off to a strong start to avoid solely serving to strengthen the statistics about how quickly chairman Milan Mandaric gets through managers.
Will Sven take Leicester back into the top-flight or will his latest gig be as short-lived as his last few? Let us know what you think with a comment in the box below...
