Leaky Leeds lose, QPR and Cardiff are held
As well as last night's Champions League action, there was a full Football League programme with some surprise results.
Leeds supporters were treated to another goal fest as their team managed to go from leading 4-1 against lowly Preston to losing 6-4. Having shipped five goals against Barnsley two weeks earlier, the Whites' leaky defence was again on show as bulky frontman Jon Parkin scored a hat trick to move North End out of the bottom three.
Leaders QPR and second-placed Cardiff both endured frustrating evenings as they were each held to scoreless draws. The Hoops had plenty of chances to win it against local rivals Millwall, but failed to convert any of their opportunities. Cardiff, still without talismen Craig Bellamy and Michael Chopra, got no change from a stubborn Crystal Palace as they failed to find the net for the first time at home this season. QPR visit the Eagles this weekend, with Rangers still heavy favourites at [1.96].
Portsmouth also moved out of the relegation zone with their second win in a row, firing three goals past former captain David James to win 3-1 against his Bristol City team. In spite of this, Pompey are still heavily tipped to end the season with relegation to League One, with odds of [4.0] to finish in the drop zone.
Elsewhere, Norwich recovered from their defeat to Hull at the weekend to beat struggling Leicester 4-3 and move up to third in the table. The Canaries are [2.72] to finish in the play-offs and will be looking to pick up their third away win of the season against Bristol City on Saturday.
High-flying Watford went down 3-2 at home to ex-manager Brendan Rodgers' Swansea team, Middlesborough suffered another defeat away at Derby and there were good wins for Reading and Burnley respectively.
Will Leeds ship yet more goals when they visit Ipswich this weekend? Odds of [1.32] on there being more than 2.5 goals suggest it's pretty likely....
