Top three bets for Arsenal's trip to Ipswich

Our Carling Cup confidence is high after backing West Ham to win, Birmingham to earn more corners and over 2.5 goals is Tuesday's semi-final first leg and we're hoping to keep that form alive by picking out three bets for tonight's clash between Ipswich and Arsenal...

Lay Arsenal to win
This is a hugely contentious call given Arsenal's odds of [1.38], but the statistics exist for making such a bold bet. Only two of the last 21 Carling Cup semi-final matches have been won by the visitors and those were both all-Premier League ties. There have been many upsets even in that short stint, like Burnley beating Tottenham, Derby overcoming Manchester United and Wycombe holding Chelsea.

Back under 2.5 goals
On Tuesday, we benefitted from the massive [2.34] offered on over 2.5 goals. Punters have gone the other way this evening, with under 2.5 goals priced at [2.58] after Ipswich shipped seven at Chelsea, odds too big to ignore. Three of the last four semis in which Football League sides hosted Premier League ones featured two or fewer, while the exception between Burnley and Tottenham was 1-0 after 72 minutes, so there should at least be an opportunity to trade.

Back the second half to have more goals
There hasn't been a first-half goal in Arsenal's last two games, while just one of the three in the Birmingham match prior to that came before the interval, so as four of the goals in Ipswich's 7-0 thumping at Chelsea came after the break, and none in the first 32 minutes, [2.06] on there being more second-half strikes at Portman Road appeals.

Thanks to our special offer for those opening new Betfair accounts, you can bet up to £30 on this match or anything else that catches your eye within seven days of signing up and any losing wagers will be refunded, so there's no absolutely no risk involved.

I can see where you are coming from, but being in the advantageous position of living just 12 miles from Portman Road, and having family that work at the club, I can tell you with 100% certainty that Ipswich will lose this 1st leg tie tonight.

Arsenal (as skinny as they may be) have to be the bet.

You will not get 38% in any High Street Bank, so take it from tonights game, and fill up your wheelbarrow

A small wager on 0-3 and unquoted may also bring its rewards

I was wrong, and wildly wrong. Hands held high,

Back Arsenal in 2nd leg to win 3-0 and unquoted.
Also home/home in the ht/ft markets

If you look at most statistics outwith the cup you would find the result of the game was a bit of a shock! On paper there should have been more goals but it is a cup game and every season you do get the shockers!!
