Dowie keen on Burnley and Preston jobs
Fierce rivals Burnley and Preston both dispensed of their bosses on Wednesday, with Burnley asking Brian Laws to step down after a 2-0 home loss to his former side Scunthorpe wounded their play-off chances and Preston sacking Darren Ferguson with the club five points from Championship safety.
While Sam Allardyce has unsurprisingly ruled himself out of the running for either job reportedly, Iain Dowie has admitted that he'd be interested in a move to Lancashire.
The former Northern Ireland international, whose most successful spell in management came at Crystal Palace and who was last seen at Hull last season, has a Nigel Quashie-esque reputation as a relegation jinx but talks a good game and is consequently often in the running when vacancies emerge.
Dowie said: "You're always interested in, Burnley and Preston, clubs of that magnitude. I think both of them have got decent squads, Burnley perhaps the slightly stronger squad with plenty of attacking intent in it."
Both teams have already announced caretaker appointments, with Burnley opting for Stuart Gray and Preston putting David Unsworth in charge, while the other names linked with both posts are the usual suspects - such as Phil Brown and the highly-rated Bournemouth chief Eddie Howe.
The other big managerial news involving Championship underachievers is that Sheffield United have invited boyhood fan Micky Adams, currently leading Port Vale, to take over at Bramall Lane, an offer that he is widely expected to accept. The struggling Blades are [3.9] to be relegated.
Does Dowie deserve another opportunity in the Championship or should both clubs ignore him? Is Adams a good choice for Sheffield United? Tell us below...
