Day 72: We're backing Udinese to beat Lecce at [1.49]

This has the potential to be a landmark occasion for our £10 daily punt, as we bid to deliver a sixth successive winner for the first time ever, so we've decided that it's only fitting on such a day to stick our tenner on a televised tie.

The policy of shunning the glamour games in favour of less obvious options has worked out well during the winning streak though, so rather than turning to the Champions League, our Wednesday wager is on Udinese beating Lecce in the Coppa Italia at [1.49] in a match live on ESPN at 6pm.

It has the potential to be well worth watching too, as the last two cup collisions between the two ended 5-4 and 4-3, although that admittedly came in 2004-05 when Lecce were led by the magnificently attack-minded tactician Zdenek Zeman.

Why do we fancy the Zebrette? The two main reasons are that Lecce have taken just one point from seven away outings since returning to Serie A, while one of their losses in that dismal run came 4-0 in Udine ten days ago.

Admittedly, the possibility of both teams fielding slightly weaker sides this evening has to be factored in, with hat-trick hero Antonio Di Natale potentially sitting out, but we still fancy the hosts.

Their cup pedigree was proven when they reached the semi-finals last season despite struggling in Serie A and they romped past Padova 4-0 in the last round while Lecce took out Siena 3-2.

Udinese have won four and drawn one of their last five at the Stadio Friuli and can afford to show the Coppa Italia more respect than their visitors given that a mid-table finish looks likely after their recent resurgence, whereas a lengthy battle to avoid relegation awaits the Salentini.

Our bet: We're backing Udinese to defeat Lecce at [1.49], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £4.90. The same punt pays only £4.44 with Ladbrokes and Paddy Power. Sign up for a new account now and have losing bets up to a total of £30 refunded for a week.
