Day 52: We're backing Lecce to beat Siena at [2.12]
Members of the Serie A class of 2010-11 host one of the clubs who failed to make the grade last term in the third round of the Coppa Italia tonight when promoted Lecce take on recently relegated Siena.
Lecce have made a successful start on their top-flight return and while the outcome of a cup match like this will be affected by the strength of the team their coach Luigi De Canio decides to select, the Lupi should be too strong for a side they replaced in Serie A this summer at generous looking odds of [2.12].
De Canio's men are in the top half, just a point shy of predicted challengers for top spot Juventus and two off the Champions League pace after eight games and that progress is almost exclusively a consequence of their fantastic record at the Stadio Via del Mare of three victories and a draw.
Siena haven't won any of their last seven meetings with Lecce and while Antonio Conte's team settled in swiftly back in Serie B to initially set the pace, this is an ideal time to face them as they're currently enduring their first hiccup.
The second-tier title chasers have failed to find the net in three of their last four outings, two of which were away to Triestina and Empoli, and they'll struggle to end that streak this evening given that Lecce have conceded only twice this season at home.
