Day 109: We're backing Bari to knock out AC Milan at [8.2]

Roma didn't deserve it after being outplayed by their Stadio Olimpico co-tenants Lazio, however our wager on them winning a fourth successive Derby della Capitale proved that it is possible to make money betting on the at times unpredictable Coppa Italia.

Having enjoyed a fair amount of success with our £10 daily wagers in 2011, we're willing to take a chance and back a huge outsider in the final match of the round-of-16 stage by backing the team bottom of Serie A, Bari, to eliminate leaders AC Milan at the San Siro tonight at [8.2].

After finishing tenth on their top-flight return after a nine-year absence, Bari have endured a painful second season not aided by the summer sales of their star defenders Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Ranocchia and things are so bad that coach Giampiero Ventura has offered his resignation.

So why do we fancy them to upset the odds against AC Milan? Well, there have been several causes for optimism of late, such as a long-awaited first away win against rivals Lecce, while they only lost by one goal at Roma and Juventus. In addition, they held the Rossoneri in the capital last season.

They've beaten strong Serie B sides Torino and Livorno to get this far and AC Milan have struggled in the cup in recent years, surprisingly bowing out to Catania, Lazio and Udinese and defeating none of the trio at home.

Massimiliano Allegri's men have failed to impress since their pre-Christmas setback against Roma and with things tightening up in the title race and the Champions League soon resuming, this will be low on their list of priorities, whereas for Bari it's an opportunity for a much-needed morale boost.

Our bet: We're backing Bari to dump out AC Milan at [8.2], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £72. The same punt pays only £55 with Paddy Power. Sign up for a new account now and have losing bets up to a total of £30 refunded for a week.
