Betfair punters profit from Rangers' pain
We confidently predicted that Rangers wouldn't win the home leg of their Europa League encounter against Sporting Lisbon but the 2007-08 UEFA Cup finalists were denied victory on their return to Europe's second most prestigious competition in cruel fashion, conceding an 89th-minute equaliser.
Anyone that had 1-1 backed on Betfair won't be losing sleep over Gers fans' disappointment though because £10 on that result earned them a cool profit of £57 - even accounting for the maximum five per cent commission - whereas the likes of Ladbrokes and Victor Chandler only paid out £50.
There was also an incredible amount of money up for punters shrewd enough to bet on Spartak Moscow triumphing 3-2 away to Swiss side FC Basel. A £10 stake provided a ridiculous £513 return on Betfair compared to £190 with BetClic and the success was made even more satisfying by the fact Spartak fought back from 2-0 down, grabbing the decisive goal in injury time.
The most impressive performers of the round were perhaps the Dutch trio of Ajax, FC Twente and PSV all recorded encouraging results on their travels to put themselves in pole position to progress, which would do wonders for the Eredivisie's UEFA coefficient, as the league is currently ranked just the ninth-best in Europe.
Ajax's 3-0 romp in Anderlecht was particularly remarkable as their Belgian hosts hadn't let in a single goal in their previous nine matches. A tenner on Frank de Boer's team delivering by that margin won Betfair customers £513, while BetClic bettors had to settle for a comparatively paltry £240.
Don't take our word for it though, why not test Betfair yourself using Betchecker?
